    Record 043 depth stop replacements?

Here are a couple of photos of the genuine article. It looks like it was made by the method described by Pete and Andy. The sole measures 2 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/16". The post is 1" long, 7/32" diameter and its centre line is 3/4" from one end of the sole.

Millers Falls No.5 missing springs from chuck

Thanks, Andy. The WK Fine Tools site has the patent for Ryther's chuck of 1922, showing the internal details: http://hus-boringt.wkfinetools.com/Mill ... ther-2.asp Now I just need some suitably springy wire and a third hand to put it back together. I'll let you know how I get on.

Millers Falls No.5 missing springs from chuck

This drill is in quite good condition but the chuck appears to be missing some springs as the "teeth" rattle around inside it. Please does anyone have a photo or drawing of a dismantled chuck so that I can see what the springs look like and try to make some?

    Yet another casting infill plane.....

I'll be following this thread with keen interest. I think sweating is the way to go if you want a truly long lasting joint. I haven't tried sweating such large items but I think it could be done using a barbecue (even a disposable one) as a heat source.

    Unknown Hand Drill to Identify

It has the number 21540 stamped on the opposite side. I suppose it is a serial number.

    Unknown Hand Drill to Identify

Yes it is indeed a Metabo. I bought this one new more than 40 years ago and it has had a lot of use. it still turns smoothly. The knob spindle eventually became loose and worn at the connection to the crank so I made a new one. A good drill.

    Bullnose Plane Questions

Thanks Andy, a quick response indeed. I brushed the top and found exactly the same wording so a Slater it is. I have managed to shift the screw with a hammer and punch so I'll look for a nicer one to replace it with. I think I'll make a new iron - when you get a chance please could you let me...

    Bullnose Plane Questions

I can find no markings on this plane except for a small letter “M” on the back end, where there is also what looks like a sheared off threaded component. The iron does not look like it is original. Please can anyone provide any information on a possible maker for the plane or what part(s) are...

Well done. I enjoy the challenge of learning new skills. Silver steel rod is also a good starting point.

Poll Time - Success with Planes or Chisels You've Made

I started by making tools for violin making. That was the start of a slippery slope. I have made quite a few planes but only one chisel and one back bent gouge.

Has anyone used a bench plane with only one frog screw?

Are the threads in the body undamaged?
