Advice for a beginner's first table saw

Grooving on a saw requires the removal of the blade guard, an absolute no-no for a beginner who wishes to retain all digits, and also probably altering of the riving knife as most will not drop below the top of the blade. As for accuracy and fine finish, don't expect too much from a £400 saw...

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

The words 'rather cramped' and circular saw shouldn't be used in the same workspace. The circular saw is one of, if not the, most dangerous tool to own in the workshop, and if space is cramped may not be safe. You really do need a fair amount of room around and behind the saw to use it...

    Making a simple website

For a domain, go to Freeola.net as they do free hosting. Just buy a domain, approx a fiver, you can create a site with programmes like webplus from serif, which require no knowledge of coding, or even use freeola's built in web design software. We used freeola to build our B and B site and it...

    Hedge trimmer reviews

My third one a Ryobi, (previously had an electric b&d and a petrol qualcast), became like the qualcast, really difficult to start. I big the bullet and bought the Stihl HS46C-E Starts every time with at most two pulls, usually only one very light pull due to the ergo start. Lighter than the...

    Beall m33 x 3.5 spindle tap

I have never lubricated the thread to chase. If using a softer wood, I drizzle thin CA on the cut thread, leave overnight to cure. The custom plates and jam chucks are all but for free as there is always odd bits of wood around, even seasoned wood from the wood burner pile. Phil

    Record 52E QR carpentry vice

A heads up that there are some VERY competitively priced genuine Record (not Irvine Record) 52E quick release vices on the bay at the moment. I bought two at £22 each on a buy it now. Edit It appears he won't now put the rest in a bag for collection, but a bargain if you are local or know...

I'll need something to put my tools in...

Is it OK to have 'shed' envy? If it is, I have it, if it's not PC, then I'll pretend I haven't. A superb build and brilliant WIP. thanks PHIL

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Thanks Mike, tried this morning, no reply. Probably holiday break. Trend is calling me, trying to drag me back to Yandles on Saturday. Phil

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Check website, Tra100 in stock, off I go to Yandles, hands on, it really is the beast claimed by existing owners. The Kreg plate was in stock, but had a look at the tables as well. I decided on the Trend table, discard the legs and let the top into my workbench, perfect. Guide, fence...

Record CL3 - new or new old stock?

The original was a hobby 1218, not the trade 1416, so the quality wasn't there to start with. I would say the Record, either new or new old is of a better build quality than the 1218. Phil

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Hi Mike No, not obvious, I thought, naively, that as you wound it to the top of travel it switched off and engaged the spindle lock, then when wound down it would release spindly lock and power on. There seems little benefit in above table bit change if you need to get to the router to turn off...

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Does the Triton go NVR when changing bits, as it would really need to be able to be switched remotely if a dust collection box is to be built around router. Phil

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Now this is getting silly :) I resisted the urge to follow those links, but then thought that if I only looked with one eye I could avoid temptation. You just can't unsee some things, now my max £300 budget is screaming to be streeeeeched to £400+, I'm so week willed. Still, with Santa...

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Another trick learnt from your build, t'ing off the dust extraction from underneath as well. I like it. Some very useful pointers for the fence as well. Thanks Phil

Seems everyone who has one is well pleased, can't wait to get one and build the table. WIP with pics methinks PHIL

Cheers for the explanation Mike, seems the Kregg is a better option than the own brand at that rate for me. Phil

Brilliant thanks Matt, can now see how it's mounted. Looks like you can adjust height even if fence is in place. Exactly as I have imagined it turning out. Will post pics when I have made it, along with pics of the mobile base and pillar drill table.

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Thanks again for replies. I've put down for the Kreg insert for the Triton router. It seems to get good reviews and is predrilled for the TRA. At £43 it is a worthwhile purchase to base the table on, as it is to be installed in the saw table gap. Having looked again at the MOF001, it would...

    Building a router table, MOF001 or TRA001

Thanks for the replies lads. I don't like skimping when I'm buying tools, neither do I like wasting cash, I think I was trying to justify spending the extra, rather than trying to cut corners. You've both convinced me that the small saving will probably be regretted sooner or later, or at...
