    Damp in garage wall

I would hire in a big disk cutter, ideally one designed for this sort of work, and then cut straight down the edge of the wall. You can then just lift out the offending piece. I paid £20 per day for the last one I hired.

Drilling a straight 20mm hole through 250mm oak gate post.

A few suggestions. Find a spot on your drill where you can attach a tiny bubble level so it’s level when the drill is horizontal, that will sort out one axis. Drill the same size hole through a piece of >100mm timber using your pillar drill. Use this as a guide to start the drilling. Once...

    Stud wall construction help

I would look at using plywood, the extra cost is minimal but you will get a nice finish and can still hang things on the wall. Make the vent adjustable.

roof trusses....I just would like to know.....

As a one off I have managed to put a pair in using a G cramp, you have to work your way over the plate gradually squeezing them in. Fine for a one off repair but hopeless for anything else.

Thanks for that post but the Sorby pdf that can be downloaded is somewhat different to the bits I have. The other links now seem broken...

    Help identifying Chuck bits

Thanks for the replies, searching for RP3000 has found a few pictures which has helped. What it has confirmed is that they offer no advantage over the Axminster 4 jaw Chuck so I’ll clean that up and get it mounted.

    Help identifying Chuck bits

I was given a Record Power CL3 recently along with a box of bits. I’m sorting through the Chuck bits first and have matched up most bits but there’s a few things I can’t work out.... I have an Axminster 4 jaw Chuck with 3 sets of jaws, inner, outer and some with dovetail type jaws. I’ve found a...

    Lawnmower engine oil change

As mentioned use a vacuum extractor. I bought the Briggs & Stratton Oil Removal Pump for £15 and it makes the job so much easier. What was a chore now takes a few minutes.

    Hedgehog relocation

Feeding them too much;) Hedgehogs are much smaller than they appear...I just kept making the hole smaller whilst watching with a camera. The hedgehogs kept coming but eventually the cat gave up. Of course you may have smaller cats than the ones round me.... I can measure my hole size at the...

    Hedgehog relocation

Your best option is to follows Lons advice, go out a few hours after dark and put some netting down so they can’t back in. This time of year is still mild so they’ll soon find a new home. However, if you feel bad then firstly you can build a feeding station. There’s numerous plans out there but...

Recommendations to extend wi-fi coverage outside the house

No, I just set it up as a standard access point, no controller or anything else is needed.

Recommendations to extend wi-fi coverage outside the house

I installed a tp-link EAP225 this year. Very easy to install and configure, gives complete coverage over a huge range as it's mostly direct line of sight. I can now mow our 2 acre meadow and listen to streamed audio at the same time.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

New oak house sign. Used a freehand router to do most of the work and then cleaned up by hand using a chisel. No finish, I’m hoping it will weather nicely plus it will spare me having to regularly treat it.

    Dealing with shakes in timber

I’ve been given a Record Power CL3, old blue version plus some turning tools. I’ve never done wood turning before so the plan was to knock up a stand using the timber I have, hence the oak sleepers, and then see how I get on with some small bowls. I’ve based the design on the metal version that...

    Dealing with shakes in timber

Thanks Mike. The sleepers are probably 3 years old so I was hoping they wouldn’t move too much more....perhaps I should measure the moisture content now I’ve cut them. The plan was to have the larger section running lengthways but have a near full height plywood gusset joining the legs at each...

    Dealing with shakes in timber

I'm making a simple lathe stand and trying to use up some new oak sleepers left over from a garden project. The stand is basically a big saw horse with some additional bracing between the legs. I've dimensioned the oak but some of it has some very bad shakes, I've attached photos to give some...
