    Vertical radiator on single stud?

I’ve never had any problems mounting radiators on plasterboard as long as you use good fixings that spread the load (assuming it’s 12.5mm plasterboard) The only exception is if the radiator is in a position where someone can use it as a bum rest when it’s cold (my wife!) or as a hand support...

    Blade size in chop saw?

And start at the bottom, apparently the top becomes case hardened and almost impossible to cut without the correct cutter, but is brittle so breaks clean.

    Blade size in chop saw?

You need a session ale to go with it, the 3rd or 4th session will be feeling quite good 😊 More seriously could it have become hardened by use or age? Any merit in tempering or is it the current hardness you’re after? ps. Don’t forget to try some cutting fluid, even with a hacksaw can make...

    Blade size in chop saw?

I know it sounds awful but don’t under estimate a new decent HSS blade in a hacksaw. Plan to do it over a number of sessions and take it slow and steady, l’ve cut several RSJ this way. To make it quicker you can use your 4.5 inch angle grinder to cut in from all sides as deep as you can and then...

Air stapler / nailer guidance please

I think you’re falling foul of the low stock and inflated prices at the moment. Whether prices will ever fall to that level again is anyones guess but it’s a bad time to buy tools at the moment…

    Machine run time

I have a record with similar filters, I vacuum the filters using a brush attachment on the Henry every time I empty and then do a thorough dismantle and clean ever 5 empties or so. The paper bags do quite an amazing job of filtering. If you generate a lot of chips from a planer/thickness then it...

    Remove grease stains from pine

I doubt you’ll get it out without removing the covering but you could try a warm/hot iron and some absorbent paper/material although i suspect you will not be able to get it warm enough without damaging the diamond wax.

How to improve the look of this small mug table

Just to finish this off, I decided to make a new top more closely following the Ercol edge pattern and made slightly larger. I think it looks a lot better. Also decided to keep the slightly fatter legs. Finished in melamine lacquer.

Can you apply cellulose lacquer by hand, any tips.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help. I’ve finally managed to get an OK finish on a small table I‘ve been making. So I stripped off my old attempts, used some sanding sealer again, then down to 400 grit. Using a brush just managed to apply a heavy thinned coating to allow enough time to...

    Drawing software.

I’d recommend trying an App called concepts, it can work as a paper replacement for a quick sketch but you can gradually learn more advance features to improve your drawings. For instance it can auto straighten you freehand lines, you can use guides, you can draw to scale. It has a lot of depth...

Can you apply cellulose lacquer by hand, any tips.

Thanks that’s really useful and gives some pointers on how you’ve managed to get it to work. I’ll try using a brush and see how that works for me. I was thinking that this hot weather won’t be helping either. I’m trying to coat some small bowls that get used for crisps and nuts, I haven’t had...

Can you apply cellulose lacquer by hand, any tips.

Yes, it's the Melamine lacquer. When you’re looking for a hard-wearing, heat and water resistant, quick drying gloss lacquer you need look no further than Melamine Lacquer. Based on cellulose technology, Melamine Lacquer has a catalyst suspended within it; when the lacquer is in the can it is...

Can you apply cellulose lacquer by hand, any tips.

I’ve always been really happy with the surface and finish after applying cellulose sanding sealer. I apply via a lint free cloth and within 5 minutes it’s gone off and ready to sand. So I thought a simple hard wearing finish would be to use the same technique with some cellulose lacquer over the...

    Insurance

I’ll be interested here as well. I’ve looked for specific tool/workshop cover and they all seemed aimed at professionals and very expensive. I’ve always ended up with contents insurance where the contents can be located in outbuildings. Currently with SAGA who offer 100k of cover no matter where...

    Garage Doors (insulated)

The frame is key here and where all the strength comes from. The tenons and cross bracing will make for a very rigid structure. A 5 bar field gate is a good example.

How to improve the look of this small mug table

I must admit to keeping things as simple as possible at the moment even if it’s at the expense of strength. I’m still making the occasional catch and ruining things so the less there is to go wrong the more chance I have of completing. I’ll add that to my practice list, which is quite long….

How to improve the look of this small mug table

Thanks for the reply. I did a fair bit of photography in my younger days and I always remember the rules of composition and I now tend to naturally place things at about this thirds position without thinking, so I guess it was by unconscious design. I hadn’t considered it for the top, you never...

How to improve the look of this small mug table

Well, I turned a new leg out of some pine and also thinned the top edge out. I think this together with the thinner leg looks a big more elegant and table like? So fat legs or thin?
