    Block plane identification.

Hi Nick , what you have there is the bare bones of a Chariot Plane. The very well executed inscription on the bridge is nothing I recognise and may be a little bit of fanciful embellishment by the original owner. Perhaps their initials or something.... Some more pictures would be nice so we can...

Challenge - 18th century transport box design and materials?

So, back to design..... Thin wood when assembled appropriately will give a strong construction. You might like to have a look at John Williams hand crafted stave baskets for inspiration. https://www.dartmoorwoodcraft.co.uk/stavebaskets Cheers Andy

ARCOY drill stand with drill and mortice attatchments

If you are near Sheffield and want a solid (that bar is 1 1/2" solid steel and base is cast iron) drill press they do not come much better than this, also, the drill if it works, is a Billy Bonus. One caveat is to know if the ring that clamps the drill is broken or not. I know nowt about this...

For Sale/Swap Paramo saw sharpening vice

Straight up I'll say this is for use as is, spares or repair. One of the front vertical arms has a crack in it. I have clamped this saw (with a decent thickness plate) in it and it's held solid. It's easily enough to sharpen with. It's a 1945 war issue with rear tilting clamp. £20 picked up...

Making hardwood DG sashes - Advice on how to cut rebates

I'd certainly be doing this on the saw. I'd only use a router if saw wasn't available. Way too much dust and noise for my liking. Swapping the cuts around though (1 for 2 and 2 for 1) and having rebate/waste against sub fence which is sitting above waste height. No side pressure needed but an...
