    Sash window catches wanted.

I hope you are all able to follow and understand what I mean from my written ramblings in this thread, it's hard for me to convey the situation in writing when a short verbal discussion would suffice. Cheers, Andy

    Sash window catches wanted.

Many thanks Dickm, the centre top one has the look we're after but without the dovetailed keep. I've previously rejected these as the latching has the ability to "slip" off the two square faces but I've just had the thought that I might be able to rework this situation with a bit of file...

    Sash window catches wanted.

Apologies for lack of recent response from myself and thanks for your input. Many thanks, those look like a great pair Ollie but the receded look isn't favourable in this instance (might see if I can influence the decision though) along with the Brighton style. Cheers, Andy

    Sash window catches wanted.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, Reddiseals and Mighton tried. https://www.broughtons.com/store/product/70549/aston-quadrant-sash-fastener-antique-brass-unlacquered/ This is the type of thing we're thinking of. It's 53" wide with a brush seal between the meeting rail. One would work but being...

    Sash window catches wanted.

I'm searching in vain for one, possibly two catches to fit onto a nice old sash window I'm restoring. To date I've looked a quite a few and in many ways most are not fit for purpose being poorly manufactured, wrong pattern knob, not enough depth etc. Ideally I need brass, a plain knob, at...

    Jammed Record 53E vice.

I can't say as I've ever heard of a problem of this magnitude before Bob. Have you, I wonder, had issues winding it in previously? Has it recently been dismantled and rebuilt? My first guess would be that the end plate at the back of the vice has possibly been put back on upside down. Cheers, Andy

    Fence Post Splits

Bear in mind that the crack is a result of shrinkage and the crack just happens to be where it "let's go". If you fill that void with something solid and the timber when getting soaked again is wanting to expand, it's likely to be forced against the solid packing and open it up further past the...

Party wall agreement with crazy neighbour and surveyor

And yet, I've heard of a neighbour who has removed his skin of a party wall to increase the area of his room/s.... The other side have tried countless times to get it resolved through the relevant authorities and none has succeeded. Perhaps pretend to start something and see if they stick their...

Has Toolstation got a production error on medium set back latches?

Righto, be under no illusion I checked it before I was due to buy it and this is when it showed up as not suitable for any 57mm backset replacements. Though it pains me to use them the right size product was purchased from Screwspits. I believe that in their quest to get a cheaper alternative...
