How to change career to woodworking

Having the evenings to partake in a hobby of making decorative jewellery boxes is very different to running a joinery & cabinetry business. If I was you I would consider doing a number of paid courses where like minded Middle Aged people will be. Don’t do an apprenticeship. I’ve had a number...

Needless to say after my 3 year training I wanted more money (in fact I wanted to be paid the equivalent to the other “pro” joiners that had all been sacked by that...

    Training apprentices

The guys just finished his masters with a first in computer systems and web design. I don’t believe in teaching someone the ropes by having them sweep up all day. In at the deep end! (But In a responsible manner). Get the boy earning, burning, learning and yearning.

    Training apprentices

Got my first apprentice starting next week. Very excited to be teaching someone from scratch. He’s an older lad who is much more mature than your standard twerp. Just starting to think about a training schedule. How long is long enough training on a machine? For example a rip saw. It has a...

There is good debt and bad debt. I have purchased many thing on finance. If I’m given the option to spread payments then why not if it’s the same cost? Workshop machines can pay for themselves easily over a year or two. Brought my first panel saw on finance and it wasn’t even 0%. It was a...

    4 sider electrical help!

Had markfield woodwork engineer round who suggested it could be a controller. The rollers work when the control switch is physically pushed in (on the fuseboard) I have just swapped it over but to no avail. There is a makeshift safety switch that has been retro fitted. It’s never been the best...

Help! The rollers on my 4 sider have stopped working. The cutter locks all work fine and the fuses round the back have not tripped. Rollers are operated by a motor and chain I believe. Engineers were supposed to come out today but have let me down. Need to work it out myself if I can but I’m not...

Best choice to finish a dancefloor?

It’s not too dissimilar from how I talk. No time for fannying about if there’s easier money and happier days elsewhere. I do believe that everything has a price though. And after hearing what everyone has said - I think I’ll double mine and ask for fultl amount up front. Take it or leave it.
