    Block Plane for Christmas

I have the Lie Nielsen version of this one. Quangsheng Luban No.102 Bronze Apron Plane I think it is a brilliant bit of kit. Smaller than some block planes but I have never found its size to be an issue. The couple of quengsheng planes that I have are good quality. Given the issues with...

    Oak planks.

From stock it will be difficult. Anywhere with a machining capacity would be able to do it, even possibly a local joinery shop. British hardwoods is always worth a look for Oak and machined oak. They are in/near Keighley, so at least northern if not that near you. They do supply thin material...

    Battery chargers - be careful

I don't doubt for a second that eBay will use the excuse of "we only bring potential buyers and sellers together". I was looking the other night on YouTube about light fittings and there was a review of one that had the appearance of an earth wire but it wasn't attached to anything.

When you get going, you will want to change speeds, and these covers need opening every time. That is why I leave mine open. You will have 5 speeds or so. You start slow and build up, then for sanding may slow down a bit, so it can be a bit of a nuisance openings and closing them. In the...

Let's take some of the easier questions. The back of the chuck is numbered so you can use an indexing system. Don't worry about it for now, it is a feature that you aren't using. The cover that you repositioned looks right but I leave mine open. I presume that you also has a top cover and that...

    Fine Woodworking back issues

It isn't a disadvantage of the us subscription, but each magazine has its own style. You either like it or hate it, so I would make yourself familiar with it before you pay for a whole year.

I don't think that there is a spindle lock. No ref on the manual to one and no sign where it would likely be on the pics.

    Fine Woodworking back issues

    Fine Woodworking back issues

I think that it depends on your subscription. I get mine cheap online, and I can access any back issues of the magazines since I subscribed and started paying. There is another option I think where you pay more but have full access to every back issue and extra articles, videos etc.

Your tailstock in the eBay pic is on backwards. It is an Axminster lathe, even if not logo'd. The chuck looks ok to me. No idea what brand but it looks much better than the cheap rubbish. It may well be the one in your link. Are you saying that the headstock doesn't rotate with the chuck or that...
