    Kity 618

you can but some aluminium strip that is nearly the right size. it wont have the t shape. check both imperial and metric sizes, but when I looked there was one that needed very little filing. Alternatively, hardwood runners would do the job.

    Round Lidded Garlic Box

You could drill holes and make a cover though. I was thinking more like a tiny bowl, cut in half and glued on. Or could you either turn something with an overhanging rim which would cover up the hole underneath (it would be beyond my turning skills but...) Or turn your box and add a lining...

The holes could be covered with hand carved gargoyles such that ventilation is allowed through their mouth?

    Chuck help needed please

How do you make these? Could you glue the blank to a long piece, or use a long blank held in whatever jaws and sort the inside out first? When that is sanded and finished, grip the inside using your taper and do the outside.

    New Number 1 DIY disaster

It is hard to tell from the picture but there looks like there is a significant amount of material displaced. I doubt that you will be able to polish it out. I would consider replacing it. It may make you cry now but it is highly visible and it will annoy you 5 times a day for many years. Does...

    Chuck help needed please

As well as the sales pages, look for the rp2000 manual. There is a pdf online, and a few pages in it gives you the details for the jaws. This info seems difficult to find elsewhere!

    Chuck help needed please

What chuck are you using? This will determine what jaw options are available. My immediate thoughts are (no particular order): I have a small record rp2000 chuck which I use for small things. The standard jaw set works in compression mode between 23 and 47mm. Am not sure on the remounting...

    sgs engineering.. BEWARE!

I have used SGS once. They were out of stock on eBay and on the website but a quick email to customer services sorted that. The product arrived as planned. It is very difficult to judge a company on occasional transactions but I would happily use them again.

Where to source hardwood in norfolk?

I am not rural, but rather than an annual trip to buy wood I would buy it on a project by project basis- what you need and some to cover wastage, slightly ahead of when you need it so that it can settle down inside. It may not be the most efficient way in terms of time but it saves having too...

    Finish for small boxes

I got a really nice squirrel hair brush from Series 172. French Polishing Mops | Rosemary & Co Artist Brushes cheaper than elsewhere at the time. They make the brushes so if you want something slightly different they can do it. when I got mine, I had to ask but it looks like they may list them now.

The pdf link doesn't work but I can google and found what you describe. I do have a pump somewhere but there is still a couple of hundred quids worth of kit needed, plus the cactus juice liquid. it is a while since I looked but it I would need a pressure/vacuum chamber (make or more likely...

    Wood stabilising

normally yes, but on these that wouldn't work. I wouldn't be able to drill them. If necessary, they can be put into a box until I have enough to make it worth doing something else with. I like the idea of cactus juice and having previously turned some stuff that had been treated there are...

are they breadboard ends though, or are they screwed through the sides into the end grain and plugged. If the latter that will stop all movement and cause issues every summer and winter.

That was what I had in mind actually, I phrased it incorrectly. They feel nice and dry. I bought them 12 months ago and they have sat in a box in the centrally heated house. Prior to that, they were air dried in a barn for 30+ years after being dug up (I believe). It was only when I went top...
