impressed by all this and the fact Mozley himself is contributing great story, hope our German Christoph is still reading -- look after that saw, now wiederhoren ich hoepf

Where can i get the bk bits for a rededa mark 2 vice quick release

Looking good -- one other option people sometimes choose is to forget the quick release (maybe until you find a parts donor) and wedge the half nut against the screw -- the buttress thread will hold well, but no QR). Maybe some member has done this and can report.

Where can i get the bk bits for a rededa mark 2 vice quick release

This doesn't look like the type I referred to in answering your other thread. It's a straight twin of Parkinson/Record/Woden equivalents, I believe. Some spares may be available, even new for record/irwin, but it'll cost you, so your best bet might be to look for a broken one of them - most of...

    Rededa mark2 reg no 717731

Is it a woodworking vice? There's one Rededa which is a 7in (possibly a 9in version also?) wide wood vice which has it's own mechanism, needing no spring, just gravity. You can tell if it's this one because it has a vertical slot rather than a round hole on the front jaw. To quick release, just...

    Leg Vice Screw fitting ideas.

Latest trend, yes, but doesn't mean we've not been there before. Anyone else out there have an old English cast iron woodwork vice with a wheel? I do - roughly 10in jaws, 7in wheel (5 spokes) v heavy -- looks like the vices made in the greater Bradford area about 1860 up to various inventions...

    Resin filled table tops

I think they've had their 15mins of celebrity - especially the luminous blue and green. The earlier versions tended to be black - a bit more tasteful? And how many butterfly inserts do you want? Sounds like I don't like 'different' furniture, but actually I'm all for experimenting and a few...

Traditional woodworking marks. Is there a list?

Interesting topic and I like your list of hobo/tramp marks -- I'm not in the know but I believe the craft guild members who travelled had (maybe have) something similar. (started this before Droogs entry - thanks) European blacksmiths marked the tools they made (especially axes) with patterns...

Holes in aluminium pulley - Jet 1015

Porosity in a reasonable casting may be like an aero bar chocolate ie deeper, with a reasonable surface layer - so cutting the grooves has 'found' this. I worked with foundries on porosity (we had an (expensive) solution) - more of it than designers thought. I remember work on big BMW engine...

    Wooden gutters.

You can still have wooden gutters fitted as a fairly standard service for ordinary houses here in South Yorkshire -not pricey - usually painted inside and out. They have lead (or zinc or plastic) ends and downspouts. They were everywhere on basic terrace/townhouses and common enough that one...

Holes in aluminium pulley - Jet 1015

best guess agree with lurker casting porosity -- a few holes shows less than brilliant cast, but shouldn't affect use -- these could have had a polymer filler in them when you bought it or more likely just been smeared over by the machining of the grooves in this aluminium or zinc alloy now...

Sous Vide Recipes. What are your best/favourite/proven uses? All suggestions welcome.

Haven't read all this looong thread, but yet to be convinced about sous-vide -- I'm not a foodie but occasionally like a good restaurant meal -- a few years ago a fine local restaurant made a big splash about going sous-vide - same chefs but I have to say I preferred the taste and texture of the...

    Unusual German CK Pliers Tool

like those compound words, and of course that's what it is - always had probs with my split rings ---- I needed a mother key (mutterschlussel) ie a multitasking hand-werkzeug, (as only women can do)

    Unusual German CK Pliers Tool

agree with droogs and Tony - it's a relative of the wire fence plier/all-in-one - in that case the points at the top are for pulling out wire staples, but there'd be a hammer face on one side CK were (are?) an interesting company -- yes German originally, but moved to Wales after WWII and both...

    Japanese tool box

That's a very smart workbox. Like Andy, when I saw a picture of one of these, I looked for a nice piece of softwood in the pile and made it v quickly. Although it has some Oriental tools (not of the expensive type) within, my wife liked it and it's been a small coffee table in our garden room...

Phase 3 Covid vaccine trial recruits needed

OK - I accept that if Nature uses the phrase, it gives some credibility. I think the effects of these anti ageing drugs on humans (as opposed to cloned lab mice) so far are even less than the anti-wrinklers - probably too late for me anyway. I read the article - interesting but v speculative -...

Twist drills - HSS, Titanium coated or Cobalt?

I'm not a cutting tool expert, but 5% cobalt sounds like a cheaper version of M42 - does it keep its edge as well? Re the metals on motorbikes -- could be cast iron, variants on mild steel, aluminium, high tensile steel, zinc alloy, many quite different stainless steels, even titanium and some...

Phase 3 Covid vaccine trial recruits needed

I signed up as a poss volunteer via NHS for vaccine trials, but have been 'rejected' three times (I am 72, have an arrhythmia, but am very fit and well). I do wonder why the reject as I think the older population with some conditions will be the first in line for vaccination - and thus should...
