    Miniature Traction Engine

I never get bored watching things like this, I love mechanical things. You can see how they work and what's going on as the parts move round. I enjoy hearing your thought process as you build the model.

That sounds like one hell of an experience! Just shows what the mind is capable of with a bit of chemical enhancement.

    Strange Shaped Leg

I made legs vaguely like these. Not quite round at the bottom. It was about 35 years ago, so I can't remember for sure what I used. I think I planed it to the rough shape then finished off with a hand held belt sander. I took off all the square edges. The first image made me think of this.

Have you had your booster *** ?

Got my booster/flu appointment today. 7:13PM Sat 13th. Glad I wasn't chosen for the night shift!!! shows the pressure they are under to get it done. I would have gone in the middle of the night if I had been asked.

One site says there are more than 6000 products derived from crude oil. I assume very little is wasted. When we move to electric vehicles and the consumption of petrol plummets, oil production will be cut. will that mean a shortage of plastics, butumen, lubricants??

    Water (and other things) Divining

It's not a case of having to be convinced. I am genuinely interested in it. I believe that there is something in it, but I like to try to find explanations in science. Our body has sensors to pick up electromagnetic radiation at very low levels, so there might be some other sensors which are...

    Joke thread

Hamish and Maggie lived on a croft on the west coast of Scotland. Hamish was a bit deaf and Maggie had been suffering from some chest pains since loading the bales on to the trailer at the end of the harvest, but apart from that, they were pretty healthy. Maggie's chest pain had worsened, so...

I tried dowsing today. Didn't work. I just couldn't make myself believe it would work and too focused on whether it would work or not. Wrong state of mind.

Should I make my workbench entirely by hand?

I don't think anyone can really answer your questions except you by trying it. There is nothing to loose and a lot to gain by using hand tools. Why do you want to make things? is it for the pleasure of making them or just to produce the item. There is a difference. Try it, see what feels...

    Heaters.

you could use and oil filled with a fan. That's what I do when I want faster heat up. That way you don't have exposed elements for things to burn on and get smelly

I have nothing against new technology. I just don't think electric cars will be the saviour that a lot of people think they will be, unless there is a limit on the power they can consume. I think electric cars are great. I don't have a horse, but look here you might be on to something ;)
