    Dust Collection Bags

I have a Nilfisk which uses filter bags. I cut the bag along theseal at the bottom of the bag. I then fold the end over and clamp it between two pieces of wood and secure with screws. I reuse the bags dozens of times. To clean, I just remove the wood strips, empty the bag, then blast out with...

Cleaning sealed ball bearings, questions about stuff.

I would just replace the bearings, but you want to have a try to refurbish, so why not. I would use petrol, paraffin, penetrating fluid or white spirit, whatever is handy. you might be able to remove the seal with a sharp point. Submerge the bearings in the fluid and keep revolving to get all...

    Cutting 40x6 flat bar

Have a think about using a metal shear (something like this), set up with length guide stop for batch production. I have a metalcraft XL5 set and it can shear and bend 40X6, but It does far more than you need and very expensive.

What are home alarms for, other than driving your neighbours up the wall?

I would never actually do anything like that to a dog, they are the best companions. Years ago, a friend of mine has this dog kind of creature, like a huge set of teeth with a leg at each corner. He kept it in his transit as a deterrent to anyone who might think of staling his van. If you...

What are home alarms for, other than driving your neighbours up the wall?

Lighten up for goodness sake, It's all in fun and we all do it. One of your comments, for example:-" Is he still banging on about that lying, fad-diet-book-shilling quack? " You need people to pick holes in things. That's what forums are about.

    I hit a dog

TCT goes through aluminium like a hot knife through butter. I do it all the time. If you are really worried, just inspect the teeth of the saw, but even with a chipped tip, they still cut fine. Also check the blade isn't twisted in some way.

Building regs application: How much detail?

You might find that building control will not be interested in any calculations. They may just need the truss's to be supplied by an accredited manufacturer. The warrant which was done for my extension, didn't really have a great deal of detail. Wiring was just shown as single lines and...

    Tuffsaw bandsaw blade type advice

I have a Record BS 350 and now always use the M42 blades from Tuff Saws I use a 1/2" 4tpi. It's the only blade I use now, a good general purpose blade for the type of work I do. My bandsaw usage varies a lot, so it's difficult to gauge the life of the blades. I initially tried the super tuff...

Amazon Alexa and smart plugs in workshop

My favourite are the agree/disagree buttons which go to the left or right, but there is no way of knowing what you actually selected.

Amazon Alexa and smart plugs in workshop

I go into my account every so often to check and delete what it has recorded. There are a lot of 'Audio was not intended for device' and 'Audio could not be understood', but I'm sure these recordings are analysed to improve performance. You can listen to the recordings. You can ask Alexa to...

    I had so much fun

This might help you :ROFLMAO: Fit like loon?:- Fit like, means-how are you?. Loon is a boy, so how are you boy? Fit means what. Fit like loon literally translates to What like boy, but you are asking how they are. ......Ach, nae bad, just chavin awaw:- Ach, nae bad, means -oh, I'm not bad(i'm...

Amazon Alexa and smart plugs in workshop

I just switch things on/off manually. So far it has been pretty reliable. No dropped or lost remotes. I have had no communication problems between the controller and the switch, so I've been really pleased with the system. It is cheap and reliable and quite convenient. The controller has the...

    Heating a workshop

I got a battery powered heated Gilet for a Christmas present. It is fantastic. It works really well. The best thing about it is the heating elements at the back of the collar. It came with a 10Ah battery which will run for about 5-6 hours on the mid setting. It doesn't keep hands warm, but I...

10mm holes in 8mm mild steel

Definitely agree, get a good sized vice which can be clamped to the drill table. Get good drills. I normally use a centre drill to create the pilot holes. If you are drilling repeat holes in a line, centre the pilot drill on the first hole with the piece clamped in the vice, supported by a...
