    BA Threads

Thank you J-G There is a lot more information in the standard which might be interesting to you. If you want to have a look ;). It cross refers to BS 6528:1984 for the glossary of terms, One of which is the 'Drunkenness' of a pitch'. You might have this already, it's the 'NPL Notes on Screw...

The hedgehog which has appeared seems to be a healthy wee thing. Now returns several times every night for food.

    BA Threads

The text relating to the basis of the B.A. thread is informative, just there for information and is not required, because all dimensions are defined in the various tables. The formulae are not part of the absolute definition of the B.A thread system any more. The Major diameter is derived from...

    BA Threads

Hopefully, this is the information the OP was looking for. "" I don't have the 'Standard' and haven't been able to find a definitive source which details the precise formula to derive the OD from the pitch "" BA threads are defined in BS 93. I was going to delete the images in my previous...

    Spam warning

Thanks for the warning. Hopefully in the not too distant future they will be able to stop these scam messages I get loads of scam calls as well. I never answer my phone if the number is not recognised. If someone really wants to contact you, they will leave a message. Blocking a number is not...

    Give me some ideas please

gee whizz, getting back into woodwork at 85! @Alexam is just giving up at 81. If I give it up at 81, or keep going until I'm 85, I'll be delighted either way. Make something for your son, perhaps a table if the wood is suitable?

Advice regarding an eBay purchase (this is a current problem, so advice today is required- if possible)

I don't think you are being unreasonable, You believed you would get the genuine fence, To replace the part will cost you $23+, not $10. Your request is fair. I would walk away, unless you really really want it and it is still a good saving. Split the difference??

    BA Threads

I hope you don't mind me saying, I'm sure you didn't intend the reply to be abrupt, but it comes across that way. It is so easily done accidently. Craywater was just trying to be helpful and their information is correct. People just add what information they have in the hope it will be helpful...

    Edge join 6x2 for garden?

The idea is really sound. The tooth plates are quite thin, and the teeth can be perpendicular to the grain. When I tried hammering them in, the plate deformed, then the teeth started going squint. I also tried spreading the load, but the plate tended to move to one side. These are commonly used...

    Giving up Woodworking

It's always sad to hear of something like this, but it sounds like you have given it a great deal of thought. At 70, I'm not all that far behind you. If I have another 11 years at it, I'll be delighted. I might even find my cast iron thicknesser before I give up messing about with wood. I think...

    Edge join 6x2 for garden?

I have tried hammering these in, but didn't work. You need to use something to spread the load or somehow press them in. I ended up using nail plates and these nails. Worked very well. The twist nails grip the plates really well, but for real strength, you need a plate at each side.

    Edge join 6x2 for garden?

I would just use batons across both widths and screw them together. If you machine treated rough sawn timber you will cut away the best protected part of it. You could also drill both bits and hammer rebar pegs through both to hold them together.

    Round bedside table

I meant to say, if you use Chrome on a PC, and right click on an image, you get an option to Search Image with Google lens, same as reverse image search but in a context menu. It's useful for finding things like this.

    A quite depressing video.

Cheer up!!!! Don't be depressed about it. This video is from pre 2015 and is biased beyond belief. It is an insidious video. It should be classed as fake news and banned from showing. It is hosted by BitChute---Wikipedia says "" BitChute is an alt-tech video hosting service launched by Ray...

    First hedgehog already!

It's great to see them in the garden. We didn't have so many last year. I think we had three different visitors. The biggest danger where I live is the road outside the house. A few have been killed crossing it.

    First hedgehog already!

If it looks in trouble, I'll take it in, but normally they do fine. The first sign of difficulty is being about in daylight, but it may have just wakened today. We have a few hedgehog shelters in the garden. I think it's been sleeping in one of those.

Well this little hoggy appeared this afternoon. It's really small, lucky to survive winter. Might take it in for a week to fatten it up if it seems to be struggling.

Please help find a right pillar drill/ drill press/ drill stand for me

The way I would try is in my mortise machine, using just a drill. I would have to rotate the stand through 360 degrees to get the lower clearance, but it has a travel of about 300mm. You can get 300/400 mm wood drills. 250 mm is a long way to drill and keep it straight.
