Has Health & Safety Gone Mad?

Talking of H&S, SWMBO won this cake in the raffle in our village WI Xmas fair and she offered it to the local old peoples home. They said that for H&S reasons they couldn't accept it unless it had been shop bought! We know who made it, and it will be a terrific cake. If it had been imported...

    Scheppach ts2010 table saw

Another TS2010 user here. I bought this complete with side and outfeed extension tables, plus sliding table, on an "Ally Pally Special" about 4 years ago when the £/€ exchange rate was much better. I paid £599 and I think the same offer is now £799. That's 33% in 4 years, and they say there is...

    Moisture Meter for building measurements

Yep - you need to be quick off the mark sometimes at Ebay - but even at £120, someone got a good buy - about half price, and no moving parts so nothing to wear out. I like the Wagners because there are no pins to push in to the wood, so no damage. And I suspect that pins would be hard to...

    Moisture Meter for building measurements

David - you might want to have a look at this one. Usually retails at about $350. I'm not connected with this item in any way, but I have a Wagner and am very pleased with it.

    My heating just came on.

Thanks Roy. We're using the Drayton RF1 wireless Digistats at the moment. The lounge is at the far end of the house and the pipes are buried in concrete so would be a nightmare to fit a valve in between. It's no real hassle to just turn the rads off when we've finished at night.

    My heating just came on.

A mixture. When we had our new boiler fitted, the plumber split our system so that upstairs and downstairs are on completely different circuits, controlled by their own thermostats and timer. That way we can have them on at different times and at different temperatures. We have the downstairs...

    My heating just came on.

Now I'm confused. Why is an indoor temperature of 22 OK on a mild day, but not warm enough when it's colder outside? Apparently those that have air conditioning set the temperature lower when it's hot outside than the temperature they warm the house up to in the winter. Crazy! Our heating...

Table saw - scorch marks - advice please?

Well, I placed my order over the net yesterday morning with Atkinson Walker for a 20pt 200mm industrial blade, and it arrived by DHL at 11.30 this morning. Very impressive service. Couldn't wait to try it so put it straight on the saw and did a couple of test cuts without adjusting anything...

Table saw - scorch marks - advice please?

Thanks for all your contributions guys. I've ordered a 20T industrial blade and I'll let you know how it goes. Thinking about the use I've given the existing blade, it's cut a lot of chipboard and OSB as well as American White Oak, so maybe not as sharp as I think it is. I think I'll get it...

    Table saw Blade

Shedman - I have the same saw as you, and it would appear similar needs - see this thread. Did you get a new blade, and if so, which one and what is your verdict? Many thanks.

Table saw - scorch marks - advice please?

This is a GP 24 tooth 8" blade - so that's about 1 point per inch. Equates to 31 points on a 10" blade. I have a large(ish) quantity of 1" English Oak to rip for a blanket box and a tall bookcase with drawers below. Plus a small quantity of 2" Oak. In an ideal world I would have a 10" saw...

Table saw - scorch marks - advice please?

Blade definitely at 90 deg and parallel to fence. Face is sawn board. Moisture content is 13.5%, which is pretty much par for the course for air dried timber in Devon. Even some kiln dried American White Oak that has been turned in to a table and indoors by a radiator for 2 years is 11%. I...

Table saw - scorch marks - advice please?

I've been getting scorch marks on timber for some time and today spent some effort to ensure that the fence was exactly parallel to the blade. Still getting scorch marks tho' and the blade seems pretty sharp, and hasn't had a lot of use. Its an 8" TCT general purpose blade that came with the...

    Bears attack Light Aircraft

Ironballs - if you look at the final picture of the aircraft ready to fly, they have gone. I think they are just 2 plywood plates (top and bottom) bolted together through the gap between the flaps and the ailerons to stop them blowing about in the wind on the ground. Worst damage to the...
