Window Friction Stays - which ones?

Another window question! I'm planning our kitchen windows which will have an opening sash 110cm x 70cms. These are going to be heavy, and made from Iroko and double-glazed are likely to weigh iro 26kgs which is more than most friction hinges will comfortably take. Also there is no need for an...

Locks and hinges for casement windows - help please..

Aaagghh! Now why didn't that come up when I did a search? Thanks Brian.

Locks and hinges for casement windows - help please..

Presumably when building a traditional casement window, you use butt hinges rather than friction hinges? It would be nice to have stainless ones rather than zinc plated which always corrode eventually - anyone have a source for these please? Also what type of security lock should I use if I...

    Kitchen wall unit

That's a cracking job Mailee. Love the contrast between the paint and natural wood. Did you hand paint or spray the finish - and what type of paint did you use please? A bit of detail on this would be really helpful in my research for my own kitchen build.

    Thicknessing wth a router

Interesting. I think I got hold of the wrong end of the stick entirely with my offering, which was more directed to producing finished pieces with a constant width. Sorry Brian!

    Thicknessing wth a router

Brian - This is probably a definite no-no, but for narrow pieces I've occasionally fed the piece to be thicknessed through the router table between the fence and the bit, feeding from left to right rather than the usual R-L to prevent it becoming a climbing cut and sending it off down the...

    yandles, whos going?

Yep. A grand day out. Came away with a Camvac 386 twin motor extractor as a treat to my lungs, plus a couple of Bessey quick clamps as company for the two I got at the spring show. Then came home via Axminster where I got 10 x 300mm x 100mm Axminster F clamps which I've found to be my favourite...

Windows - a first attempt - WIP pics

Over time, yes. We have never liked the dark walnut stain on the existing windows, which are 30 years old and near the end of their useful life, and I couldn't bring myself to stain the iroko to dark walnut. The windows and doors in the extension will be finished in the same way. In the short...

Windows - a first attempt - WIP pics

I've just finished making a version in iroko. I've used exactly the same method as I did for the softwood learning piece, so photos are a bit sparse. Each frame and sash combo consists of 40 pieces of wood, laminated up. I started with the frame and mitred the corners. These were just butt...

I won ebay auction, but seller will not sell to me?

I've bought loads of stuff from Ebay and never had a problem. On one occasion a battery charger was not compatible with the camera battery it was intended for, but I was refunded before I had even sent it back. Generally people like to protect their buyer and seller ratings by offering good...

I won ebay auction, but seller will not sell to me?

Cheeky b***** has added "if you have any questions about this sprayer please ask them before bidding to avoid problems after the sale". So who has created the problem? Surely if you sell something and the buyer has paid for it, it becomes the property of the buyer and the original seller...

    I want one of these

Superficially at least it looks like a useful piece of kit. However, every time you want to use a different function you have to remove the powertool, and maybe change the set up which would be a real pita when trying to make repeatable cuts. Of course, if you have room for 2 or 3 of them .....

    New Windows from scratch

I found laminating up a frame worked well for me, as explained here. I'm just completing a version in iroko and will post shortly.
