External iroko - Osmo UV Oil or Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus

Latest update is that they are all standing up well. However, as you can see, there is very little difference between the UV oil over the stain compared with the UV oil on its own. There is a narrow line of grey along the top edge which may be due to UV getting to the wood from both sides near...

    Submariners Crest

Thanks Dodge. It's something I've been meaning to try for years and there's nothing like getting stuck in and trying it. No need to reinvent the wheel though if I can learn from someone who is way ahead of me. .

    Submariners Crest

Fabulous. You'll have one really happy client there. I like the banding, and everyone who demonstrates it just says that they've added it without any explanation or WIP, so how did you do this please? Route out a groove to take the inlay? Use scratch stock? ADetails of the method would be...

Anybody in Devon with PV Solar Panels please?

    Thanks Eric. Interesting additional info.

Anybody in Devon with PV Solar Panels please?

When you say "similar time of day", is it also the same time of year? Clearly in the winter the sun is lower at any given time of day and the strength of sunlight falling on the panel will be less than in the summer. Also, whilst I don't know for sure, when there is a cloudless sky it is often...

Anybody in Devon with PV Solar Panels please?

The figures are no where near as clear cut as they were a couple of years back. It stacks up far better at 46.81p per kwh than the current rate of 15.44p per kwh, even though we paid more for our system. Pay back period for us based on the first 18 months of use, during which the weather hasn't...

Anybody in Devon with PV Solar Panels please?

Whilst not wishing to enter into a "mine's bigger than yours" scenario, we got 29.5 kWh generated today' which is also a new single day record for us.

Anybody in Devon with PV Solar Panels please?

Weather's beginning to look up. Generated 603 KwH in May. That's just under the 618KwH we produced in May last year. Last June was a catastrophe with only 465 KwH generated so hoping for better this year. Today was a good start with 28KwH.

    Why does chipboard blunt tools?

Not unless they've started wrapping them in 2mm sheet steel.

    Why does chipboard blunt tools?

Because it's full of scrap iron, that's why! I've been cutting up a lot of MFC recently for a kitchen and have used Egger as it was recommended as a premium brand. However, it's amazing how much iron there is in it. I suppose it's made of reclaimed wood that will some times contain old screws...

External Folding Sliding (Bifold) Doors - loads of WIP pics

Too many! It was very time consuming, and storage of the components during manufacture was a major headache, although I was making 2 sets of 3 doors simultaneously which doesn't help. After machining all the wood (a significant task in itself) it probably took me about a week to make the...

External Folding Sliding (Bifold) Doors - loads of WIP pics

Hi Pete. I used a 3 point Tornado multi lock. It comes with either a 35mm or 45mm backset - I went for the 45mm so that the handle and lock would sit in the middle of the door stile. The outfit I bought from doesn't have a fully functioning website but here's the relevant page of their...

Anybody in Devon with PV Solar Panels please?

Sounds about right. So far this month with some bright sunshine but overcast this afternoon we have generated 166 kwh for an average of 23.7 kwh per day.

Anybody in Devon with PV Solar Panels please?

We have a 4Kw system based in the South Hams using Sanyo Monocrystalline panels. Estimated output was 3,900 kwh per year, and the first full year to the end of October last year was 4,494 so comfortably exceeded expectations. However, it is well known that the South Hams have a micro-climate...

how do I cut this detail with a router?

+1 I'm doing stopped chamfers on a large set of shaker doors on the router table. 1. Set the size of the chamfer using a piece of scrap. 2. Once you are happy with the width/depth of chamfer, clamp a stop to the router table fence. 3. Run a new piece of scrap along the fence until it hits...

    What could I make?

You've had a skip in your dining room for "some years"? No wonder you're wife is getting a bit "sniffy"! Hmmm. I can see the skip hiding the concealed cistern, but not sure about the shelf. Ooops! But hey! That's what counts as minimal sarcasm around here. Welcome to the forum...
