The joys of electric car ownership!

ULEZ is also about particulate emissions and as I mentioned in an earlier post, old woodburners are doing a fair amount of damage and they may last for decades, centuries even. For greenhouse gases see these: Steamy Relationships: How Atmospheric Water Vapor Amplifies Earth's Greenhouse Effect –...

The joys of electric car ownership!

I agree that engines haven't changed in that they still have pistons, crankshafts and valves. What has changed is the management system that controls them.In the same way that a computer from the early period has the same basic electronic components as one you might buy now.The difference is more...

The joys of electric car ownership!

A couple of weeks ago I was sitting in a traffic jam on the M25,under the Heathrow flightpath. So were thousands of others,a few of whom may have been dissuaded from taking the direct route through London by the various charges.Given the fresh westerly wind at the time, the emissions were passing...

    Gout 😥

I've seen the effect that gout has and I've seen how quickly an injection relieves the symptoms.I would happily go through life without enduring the pain of it.The problem of getting a doctor's appointment is very real and my local practice recently told the local paper that on a Monday morning...

    power router problems

Well, all I can say is that I have one that works with both.

    power router problems

My thoughts also.To be sure, can you pop the collet out of the collet nut and see if the tool shank easily passes through the collet? You ought to have around +/- 90% of the shank engaged. If,as seems likely,it doesn't then you need a bigger collet and I would have thought they are easily sourced...

    Bandsaw not switching on

I'd be taking a look at the fuse,or if you don't have one,the circuit breaker. My 18-S-5 often blows fuses.

    Veneering a Hexagonal table

From the description, might we be considering a hexagonal pedestal of 500mm height and with each facet having a width of 200mm? Its never a bad thing to have a balance veneer.

More on ULEZ. Everybody's doing it!

The Guardian is a bit behind in reporting this. The French scheme has been active for a while and it doesn't cost a great deal to get the sticker. The service is quite prompt too.

    AI chair?

An amusing specification and I suspect a rather heavy chair.Which probably gives us a few clues about the focus of the AI people responsible for developing the ability to produce the programme.I have a feeling that the same question posed in a year's time might get a more refined answer.

    Bendiply

I'm not a huge fan of bendiply as I find the grain a bit pronounced. It will wrap round a curve nicely but as mentioned,it does tend to pull a bit flat without fairly generously applied framing to guarantee that the final shape is as you might wish it to be.

How to stop a bandsaw wandering?

It might only be a small relief but UK goods for export should be zero rated for VAT.

    melting/removing contact adhesive glue

Toluene is about the most effective substance for removing contact glue.It is also about the most dangerous and consequently rather hard to obtain. It may well harm the rubber and should only be used with very good ventilation and suitable gloves. It used to be used for removing the residue of...

Automatically switch on a extractor when a tool is powered on.

In the past I had a contactor wired in with both a bandsaw and in a different time and place,a disc sander. Not being an electrician I relied on a professional to do the work and it was a complete success. If the machine in question is on wheels,it might be possible to add a wooden panel to hold...

    A Glastonbury "secret"....

My first encounter with such facilities was in the days before portaloos were ubiquitous. All that was there was a 200 foot long trench, screened off by tarpaulins.Beyond the tarpaulins there were two horizontal rails of scaffolding tubes and you squatted on the higher one ,while using the lower...
