    Side hung garag(Carport) doors

Following recent success with a framed T&G side gate I now need to replace carport doors my late father made some 40 years ago. Each door is approx. 77" x 46" (1955 x 1170) I will need to do a final trim to frame size on site as I will be making them in my workshop which is two counties away...

    Holly trunk drying out process

I have used holly quite a lot last year, I turned all the pieces green and very thin, coloring can be a problem but Oxalic acid will bleach it white. Holly is a nice wood to turn but bland and as mentioned very prone to staining and checks. If you are a new turner use it to practice on, try some...

Weekly Discussion Topic - Week 1 - Airbrushing

I have a similar compressor to DALBOY and it runs my Iwata Kustom at up to 40psi no problems. What I did do is add a twin fan arrangement that runs all the time as if doing a lot the motor can get hot and the thermal overload cuts in, always at the wrong time. With the twin aquarium fans it can...

    Drill bits for piller drill

I think for the small (comparatively) cost I would buy a set of each then add any additional sizes as required. I use lip and spur myself and get the cheaper ones as I don't resharpen, just replace as required. When you look at a decent sharpener at around £70, that buys a lot of drill bits.

    Corporate Environmental Responsibility

Better disposable wood and hair than plastic brushes. Poor wording maybe but very true in todays society, I think boycotting the site is a little harsh as they are a good firm one mistake (subjective) is minor compared to some.

Pantograph or freehand for house sign?

I USE A SIMPLE SINGLE FONT TEMPLATE WITH A 1/4 ROUTER AND BUSH. Bought it years ago, must have paid for itself many times over as I often find a use for it and made a few signs for friends and family.

    Which fixings for concrete post?

The hinges are indeed going the garage side so the timber on the post will be the slam panel, there will be little weight just the 4 x 2 post, I will try the chemical anchors methinks as I was concerned about the concrete blowing and that solves the issue. Thunderbolts, I saw those online are...

    Which fixings for concrete post?

Ok mum wanted a new gate so I made her a simple rail and stile boarded gate. Going to fit between a garage wall and the usual concrete fence post. The question is which fixing to use in the concrete post, I would usually use frame fixings but not sure these are ideal for the post. Attaching 4 X...

    DUST MASKS - again

What about one of the positive pressure masks. I use an Aircap and it is brilliant, very easy to wear even beardy types can use it.

I've been offered a free Walnut tree

Only one way to know for sure is to fell and mill it, I have had some great trees this way, even if there is some decay there will be a lot to salvage, use a chainsaw mill and cut to planks to assist drying and transport.

Scheppach TS4010 305mm Blade height issues

Was having a tinker with my table saw last night and found that when the blade is lowered completely it wont drop below the table line, the lowest point leaves 13mm above the table. I have checked the rise and fall mechanism and all is ok. Any one else have a table saw that does this. I know I...

    How to make this table?

https://arbtalk.co.uk/forums/topic/9821 ... nt-1466130 On large timbers or trunks I use a cheap chainsaw mill see the link above for more details, if you have the space and inclination you can go at trunks and make your own useable boards - don't forget the usual chainsaw caveats of safety...

    Garden Gate joints

Great thanks for the advice and reminding me about Cascamite as I had forgotten about weatherproof glue (fatal mistake). On a side note I dug out my drill press mortice attachment to cut the mortice`s out, have to say for occasional use it done a pretty tidy job, glad I have a good quality drill...
