    Live edge choppping board

Wire brush the edges to get any crud off, smooth the top, add some feet to the bottom to level it and help with air circulation, and saturate in food grade mineral oil. If kept topped up with oil it looks thick enough to survive use. I’d expect the surface to checker with cracks though at...

Right in for a penny in for a pound, I’m in. Might need next day delivery to get anything finished in time, but nothing like a deadline for motivation.

What should the kids get me for Christmas?

Hearing protection is worthwhile Otherwise I’d suggest the xs knipex cobra https://amzn.eu/d/gWo8auG And pliers wrench https://amzn.eu/d/iIuoAxl Pocket sized so easy to keep somewhere handy and useful for securely grabbing a wide range of things

Sanding + grinding replacement belt advice

    Workbench finishing

I’ve wiped mine over with osmo, as it cures hard pretty quickly it doesn’t transfer to what I’m working on. Is also easy to top up every now and again. I wouldn’t bother with adding wax on top

    Wet & Dry Sandpaper

Haven’t had SiC in a roll but have had alox For use with steel alox generally better, for softer stuff SiC better as the grains are sharper (but more friable so wear v quickly if used on harder substrates)

    Knive sharpening.

A 1000 grit will cover most bases- Shapton professional is a very good stone and comes with a case that doubles as a holder. Being splash and go (rather than needing soaking) also means easy to use whenever needed.

    Sliding Lid Movement

A lap joint into a recess in the puller would be fine for anything small, once you go bigger you start to encounter challenges with movement in solid timber

The 2023 Secret Santa - your last chance!

Keen to take part but work has curtailed workshop time quite significantly this year. When’s the cut off I need to have decided if I can commit by? Also, you’re an absolute star for organising again!

    Hammer A2-26 jointer/thickness planer

Have the a3 - 26 and it’s great. Wider would always be better but it’s solid, easy to adjust and makes the initial stock prep less of a drag.
