Can I use an orbital sander, what pad (Ercol Restoration)

i think a couple of scrapers would be more useful, 1 concave and one straight

What species would be on your shortlist for a slab desk?

I would suggest think about 25mm MDF or Ply with a solid lipping for the front and veneer on the top. Probably the only way you will get inside your budget for the foreseeable future

    2021 Secret Santa.

This is to let my SS know his second try arrived on friday but I hadn't been able to post as I was recovering from surgery (fusion to repair damage caused by the Oesteomyalitis) and only got to open the box this morning. I think it is a fantastic gift and being only their second try at turning...

    Off my nut

If you get your doctor to refer you to the link i put up they will treat you as a NHS patient needing emergency treatment. The doctor just needs to say you have no access to a regular dental practice. You should be seen within 7 days of referal.

    Off my nut

Been there, currently waiting for treatment as I am housebound having just had a fusion operation on my right foot. Try these chaps as you can be refered just by a doctor rather than a dentist for emergency care. the doctor needs to explain your lack of available service in their referal...

Returning to Woodworking - advice please

Hi and welcome. First post, big ask and will draw a lot of opposing ideas. To me from what you say, you will be a hybrid woodworker rather than all hand tool or power tool user. I would suggest you have a ponder as to what you will be looking to make initially, would it be stuff for the house...

Personally, I would love to dump these cretins on one of the very remote islands we still have in the pacific. I'd leave them on a beach with a spork and a packet of seeds and tell we'll be back to pick them up in a decade. Let them prey on each other and no-one else. Oh and forget to go pick...

    Is my router good enough?

Wealdon or CMT bits will meet your needs. Most of the more experienced members here lean towards Wealdon, as do I as first port of call. Trend were known as a good quality brand in the past but there have been a few posts of bits snapping over the last 12 months or so.

    Is my router good enough?

There are plenty of good makes available and fans of each on here, who will sing their praises. For myself, I chose to use Triton routers. I have one of each of the 3 sizes they offer with the largest (TRA001) being used as a permenant install in my large router table 2400W. The middle size...

    Is my router good enough?

For that large a bit, i would be looking at a 2kw machine rather than the 1200 you have.
