    Quality Hole saw

How deep a hole? You may get a cleaner result with a good quality Forstner bit (and you can keep that sharpened yourself fairly easily). I've started using the Axminster ones recently and I'm pleased with them. Hole saws _can_ be sharpened (I've done it!), but it is awkward. Get some diamond...

    What tool(s) for smaller items?

Martin, Is English your first language? If "no," then YouTube videos in your native language might be a good place to start. You are asking very, very basic questions. I am not sure you understand the answers. Also, there are other basic issues: these mean your design will not be strong...

    Lidl soldering iron tips

FWIW (i.e. not a lot), I have a Parkside iron, which has adjustable power input, but not exactly temperature control. The tips are pretty rubbish, as indeed is the whole thing. But they are M4 threaded and unscrew. So you might try something like a brass machine screw or bolt, filed to a...

    Second Hand/Old Socket Sets

In 1976 I bought my first motor vehicle, a moped (nice Gilera, incidentally, but very secondhand). I also bought a Draper 1/2" drive socket set, AF and metric. I still have all of it and it still gets a lot of use. Draper don't have a good reputation these days, but back then there was more...

    Bosch GOF 900 Ace

Probably Miles Tools and Machinery Centre, Yeovil. They have a good web site - you can look up the exact part. Bosch collets are quite expensive though in my experience (I have a couple of POF-series routers).

    1800 watt router motor

Peter Sefton (Woodworker's Workshop) sells his own "AUK" version, with various upgrades from the originals. They _look_ very similar, but aren't. He's also selling a variant with a remote speed control (the proto has it neatly built into the NVR enclosure). He also has both metric and imperial...

    pocket hole screws

It has been discussed at length on here, and there are several points of view. I think you would be sensible to use the suggested screws, for maximum joint strength and much less risk of joint damage. There are others on here who even swear by ornery countersunk jobbies. It's almost a...

    pocket hole screws

The ones with the square socket are officially Robertson (headed) screws. It's a Canadian design and very good indeed. You can get them (as Kreg pocket hole screws) cheaply from Amazon, also the drivers with a standard hex shank to fit in a power drill or driver. Get the LONG version of the bits...

    Router plunge springs replacement

Define "worn out" a bit better: not springy any more, compressed, or worn-through physically? Trends and DeWalts are copies of the old Elu designs, so you might find their springs will fit. In which case, there are a number of spares stockists, including Miles Tools (MTMC) in Yeovil. As Pete...

    Possibly daft MFT question

Plywood versus Valchromat (or similar): I'm not convinced it's any better. The ply table I have is very well made, but it is a little "fluffy" and needs a finishing coat or something similar. I've put machine wax on mine as I didn't want finish to alter the holes. That seems to work well. The...

    Possibly daft MFT question

I think so. In a couple of his videos, Peter M. shows a system he uses with an aluminium extrusion and a movable "flag" stop. It seems to me that will get you very close to the whole MFT system. The only thing extra you get with an MFT is a lifting-up hinge for the rail, so you can just drop it...

Bending Pallet Wood the "wrong way"

I bought my MFT table from these people: https://www.cncdesign.co.uk/gothic-glam ... -2400.html I cannot imagine you could get much cheaper by DIY - they must be close to the cost of materials for anybody contemplating a one-off. Those ribs (in the link) are plywood, CNC machined. The ply on my...

    Droopy dominoes!

My sincere apologies, at many levels! Have to say that so far I'm really impressed with my own DF 700, although I'm very much at the learning stage. It was bang-on accurate out of the box.

    Spot the oversight

Cupping, anyone? I have enough trouble with the cheap stuff in this house, some of which is seriously nasty, even though it's around 110 years old (and wasn't a cheap property at the time). Your backing could even be MDF if you chose, which would be very stable.

    A small commission for £

ISBN: 0-941936-63-5 It has good diagrams and explanations and staggeringly good examples of his work as illustrations, but sadly George diCristina seems to be no longer with us: I was interested enough to find his workshop In San Francisco on Google Street View - still there but looked...

You guys have your own indoor waterfalls?!

Clever idea, but with so many practical issues arising from it, not least humidity and temperature control. Then there's "reverse overspray" - keeping the water in the air away from the workpiece... ... of course it works well for the space industry, but on a larger scale

    Droopy dominoes!

Please report back, too. Peter Millard published a YouTube video over Christmas, looking back over ten years of ownership of a DF500, and he mentioned issues with the fence. He didn't include a diagram or explain exactly, and I couldn't quite follow what it was, but he said they modified the...

Toolstation new web site - even worse than before?

Yup the, er, marketing people* at Travis Perkins have rolled out a major update over the new year. In my opinion, It's very slow The search is even worse than before It's graphics-heavy so likely to stuff data allowances on a mobile It has stupid features (like "recommended for you" nonsense...
