    Track saw blades

The quality tracksaw blades can be resharpened (Bosch included, I'd expect). Our local saw doctor does mine, very nicely, and I can probably get three or four resharpens for the price of a replacement blade. That said, having a spare available is really sensible if using man-made boards...

    Rutlands Plunge Saw

Assuming you do release the bolt without too much more pain, It _should_ be a simple metric size. I'd guess almost anybody else's similar bolt should fit. It might be worth getting a better quality one as a replacement. Not worth it happening again - you might try anti-seize (copper slip) grease...

    Making a violin

I have only liked the two posts above since there isn't a button to alert the mods to terrible puns. Anyway having sampled Mr. Maskery's cooking a few times I have rosin to bow to his very superior skills... ... <grabs cat & coat; makes a run for it>.

    Clever router finger joint jig

The Gifkins jig seems to be quite similar to the old Stots's Dovetail Template Master, which has been copied or licenced by several other manufacturers, I think since the demise of Mr. Stots. It's still sold by Milescraft in the USA, but I'm not sure if it's available here...

    Multi-Tools (Leatherman)

Original Leatherman here, and Victorinox. I lost the Leatherman pouch some while back, and have totally failed to get a replacement from Leatherman in the USA (even though they say they keep them). Both are really handy for different tasks, but the Victorinox steel is better at edge-keeping. I...

    Kreg Pocket hole jigs

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives @AES: I'm not sure who told me about Roberstson screw heads being used in aircraft - if I am perpetuating an urban (workshop) myth, I apologise. I've looked at the Wikipedia pages and there are references to time saved on production lines by...

    Rutlands Plunge Saw

Not any more... ... Kreg has decided to be the only soldier in step in the platoon. The sensible thing to remember has already been mentioned by Mike John: for any saw blade, you should loosen the arbour by turning it (against the blade) in the same direction that the blade rotates.

    Plumbing question

That's shocking. I ended up redoing a lot of work done in our bathroom because the "plumber" was only really used to using plastic pipe (I won't have it in the house). He didn't say so until afterwards, when several of his joints leaked.

    Kreg Pocket hole jigs

Kreg's added value was putting a system together, I think, meaning a well-thought-out jig, machined drill for the purpose, and sensible selection of woodscrews. If I use it and follow the instructions regarding settings for stock thickness, etc, I can be pretty sure the joint will be as strong...

    Insect numbers

We were down on the Levels at Shapwick Reserve last week end. I've never seen so many mosquitoes, albeit small ones. Also, sadly, the open water is now clogged with lily pads, literally acres of them. I'm not sure but at a guess it will put off the otters a bit, and possibly the Osprey...

    Bristol ceilings

In case anyone wonders about the veracity of Rafezetter's comments above, at the beginning of the last century, the Bristol coalfield was the largest in the UK, or so I've read. The NCB is still involved here, as large areas of the city are now housing where once were pits, and occasionally...

Been there, and it gets on your chest, too. Lots of sympathy. E.

    12+12 = 29 (making Axminster F-clamps longer)

These are a popular sort of single-handed clamp. I bought mine when Axminster first started selling them, and although they are getting a bit long in the tooth, they are still my go-to clamps for almost everything (yup that is a holdfast collar in the picture though!). I have one friend on the...

How can i do box joints with this router

I have tried. You really, really need a spiral bit (upcut?). My big mistake was in not using one.

    Making a Gandolfi camera

Really good find. After googling, I think there is a slightly better transfer of the film on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJq04wKCKSY Seems to have more chroma. (looks like it was done on a Cintel Mk2, and complete with plop on 4 for the cogniscenti :-) ) Thanks for posting, E.

    New Kreg track saw

I wonder how many returns they will get, with snapped spindle bolts... someone was going to make one sooner or later, I guess. Interestingly the track has two anti-slip strips, and the saw has waste-side splinter guards (like Festool).

    Woodworm entry holes

They are laid as eggs (mostly). I am not a biologist, but I believe both the egg and the ovipositor of most woodworm species are much smaller than the final stage of the grub (which makes its exit). So you would struggle to see them. Some species, such as Oak Boring Beetle (so named because of...

    Rutlands Plunge Saw

A couple of words of caution: 1. It doesn't look like the saw has a riving knife: neither does my Makita SP6000, and the time I've scared myself (the most) using it was ripping old skirting boards, which turned out to have a lot of twisty grain in them And that was using a "proper" rip blade...

Removing Roof tiles from inside for Velux-style loft window

We have the exact same tiles. I still have a small amount of skin on my knuckles - thin gloves recommeded! If you look at your tiles you'll see there's a good overlap section left-right. That tends to get jammed, so slightly lifting the edge of the covering tile next to the one you want to...

20mm diamater transfer punch? Where to buy?

I have a set, one conical and one stepped. Neither goes out to 20mm, and the pointed pins are a sloppy fit in the middle, anyway, so you cannot rely on them for accuracy. The Forstner bit thing would be by far the easiest, but if this is some sort of MFT, it probably won't be accurate enough...
