Best Jigsaw blades on the market now?

If you want something to cut 'straight' a handheld circular saw might be more appropriate. If you want a square cut but curvy then a jigsaws what you're after. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    Paint Sprayer for DIY use

Peter I thought it ended at part 5. Is there a part 6 & 7 floating about somewhere ? I paid probably about the same for a huge compressor thinking it'd be needed for when I did decide to spray- I'd have bought the graco in a heartbeat after seeing your video. I really felt I could relate to you...

    Rebate position for panelled door

I just popped over the shop to see if I had an offcut in the log pile but couldn't find any. Any of your rails that could collect water I'd do this arrangement. When I was an apprentice I got carried away with grooving and accidently pushed through a bottom rail like I think my foreman took...

    Rebate position for panelled door

I prefer this. A bit more support by also having a thick part of the board in the rebate. If some lunatic tries booting it in, there will be less chance of the tongue snapping off. Another bonus is it makes shooting a nail in the top rail much easier so your boards stay nice and evenly spaced...

    Advice on external arched doors

This is a bit tragic...lol, but I kept part of the frame I took out because I liked the joint they used. Gotta love the craftsmanship that went into that joint though ! Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    Advice on external arched doors

This was one i made a few years ago. I think the very top joint had a loose tenon in both, and the top of the stiles had tenons with mortices in the bottom of the curvy parts. I must have just relied on epoxy cause I don't see any drawbores in the picture. One of my main headscratch issues was...

White gloss spray finish - total spraying beginner

Slightly off topic Peter but I've just watched both your finger pull videos. Fitting a bush to your router would have made the hogging out the first part much safer instead of freehand. Most routers ive had come with a 30mm bush, so if you put in the largest diameter flute bit you've got (maybe...

White gloss spray finish - total spraying beginner

I'd recommend degreasing them with meths, followed by a couple coats of dulux aluminium primer, undercoat, topcoat etc. You've gone through all the effort of making them, it'd be a shame to compromise them looking for a quick way out. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Using tongue and groove on external door

That was assuming it's properly wedged mortise and tenon. If it's unwedged it really won't hurt to go more. Securing each board is key. I've got a pic somewhere of a door that bowed about half inch where the boards expanded so much. It was only the strength in the wedged tenon that held it all...

Using tongue and groove on external door

If you allow 1mm per 100mm of board you won't go far wrong- that's assuming the woods not sopping wet and freshly cut down. The key to the doors survival is securing each board to allow for movement. A single fixing in each width of the board will ensure the spacings remain equal, even if the...

How to make a skirting profile

Back in the day it wouldn't be that tricky to just grind the one cutter to match. Had a recent job where I needed to match skirting and architraves so paid for a so called 'professional' to grind them. 3 sets got sent back and a full refund was given. One set of cutters provided a mould with...

    Hayward Workbench Build - Finished!

I'm thinking of remaking my spare bench after chopping 2 foot off and having a ripsaw on the end of it a few years ago. I looked on ebay for second hand ones before settling on some drapers for £90 each. I couldn't stretch to the price of new records and didn't think it was worth trying to...

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

Ok Bob. I'm using sinking granules. Which I was thinking cater for most as some float, linger halfway and other sink quickly to the bottom. I'm getting pretty good at spotting poorly ones now lol. That's two replacements from the same tank dead within 2 days. They linger near the top of the...

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

Yeah it might look appetising if you were hungry. Another guppy from yesterday is staying fairly still at the surface, I don't give it much hope tbh. It Doesn't look like it's gasping though. I've just watched the clown loach tailing one of the bigger tetras. It was literally on its fin for a...

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

FFS !!!! This was one of yesterday's. Less than 24 hrs. Could it be one of the other fish is harassing it ? It had a lovely wispy tail, but when I just saw it struggling (before sinking lifeless to the bottom) it was all ragged and looked hacked into. Fin rot would be much slower....surely ...

    Sagging MDF shelf

I was just assuming it was going to be painted. It takes paint well is more stable than softwood and doesn't cost as much as beech for example. It's probably the cheapest paintable timber I can think of that's resists sagging, much better than sheet material. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Exposed OSB cabinets - like or not?

It has its place Cheap and cheerful material but can't imagine it'd be a very easy to clean material without a lot of effort to get a smooth finish. These live in the shed (besides the dog) Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    Sagging MDF shelf

I did something similar for my cupboard. Screwed a piece of oak batten underneath to try and help stop it bowing. You would never think it would bow as much but it does. I've found even 30mm mdf will bow under its own weight. You really can't beat tulip wood, or a solid wood edging. Sent from...

    My new tropical aquarium setup.

Ok Bob. Going by that link you posted the water is slightly hard so not as bad as I first thought. I think for my own sanity I'll put it down to not acclimatising them properly to the tank water. All seems well this morning so hopefully that's it for them dying. Sent from my SM-G900F using...
