    Startrite 14s 5 Welding Attachment?

SkinnyB, I have the 14s5 that I bought off Ian flh801978 about seven years ago. It is a great bandsaw, I’m sure you will have many years use out of it. I have the Manuel for it, I will have a look when I’m in the workshop tomorrow and see if there is any mention of the welding attachment.

    Crack in Armchair Joint

The chair looks as though it has been re-upholstered, if that is the case the new upholstery may be too tight and the seat has been forced into place. If this is the case there will be no point in re-glueing the joint until the fabric is adjusted. It is a common problem with drop in seats. That...

    Saw handles

With a piece of 6mm ply I turned mine into a push stick! It makes for a comfortable secure grip and keeps my hand well away from the scary rotating thing!

    Knife block

I bought this knife block just over a year ago. It fits into a kitchen drawer and works brilliantly, better than I had anticipated keeping all the knives separated and ordered and as it is in the drawer there are no issues with dust build up in the crevices.

    What Glues am I missing?

FISH GLUE It has very similar properties to scotch but is used cold. The best thing about it is the long open time so perfect for complicated glue ups. I believe instrument makers use it quite a lot.

Wooden Folding Art Print Rack Storage Display Stand

If you do a search for 'Antique folio stand' you will see many examples for inspiration. That said the one MJP highlighted is an absolute bargain.

    In ear ear defenders recommendations?

I have just bought a pair of these Peltor 3M ear muffs that attach round the neck. I was a bit sceptical at first but now I have used them for a couple of weeks I am delighted with them. They are incredibly comfortable and don't interfere with my specs and if I am doing tasks where I have them...

    Woodworm

Time or the number of holes visible on the surface is no indication as to whether woodworm is active or not. If in doubt treat it anyway. Timber can take an awful lot of woodworm infestation before it becomes weak but if you cut into the timber you will expose all of the runs which won't look...

    Chuck Identification

Thank you for that information Paul. I hope to be putting the lathe and a few accessories up for sale on here soon unless I find somebody locally who will take the lot.

    Chuck Identification

I am helping a widow sell off her late husbands woodturning equipment, there is this chuck which I have been told is a 'collet chuck' but that is all I know. Can somebody identify the make for me please and if possible is there a manual for it that can be downloaded from somewhere. Also if you...

    How to repair this.

I think you stand a reasonable chance of steaming those out but first i would soak them in water for a full day or even two, use an artists brush to apply the water in a puddle to the scratch only and as it gets absorbed apply more. After a day of soaking the grain should swell up quite a lot...

western red cedar for interior woodwork

Western red cedar is a Thuja and not the timber used for drawer linings. Red Cedar of Lebanon 'Cedrus Libani' is the one used for drawer linings which is much harder than WRC and has a wonderful peppery scent.

    Hand Cut Dovetai Joints

Over the years I have dismantled hundreds of dovetailed drawer linings, many from first class pieces of eighteenth and early nineteenth century chest of drawers and commodes and the vast majority of those dovetails are cut by eye. As others have said the angle is not that important. Here is a...

    Coloured filler???

I find isopon P38 and artist earth pigments work very well together. The artist supplier I have linked to below are about the most expensive place to buy earth pigments but they have a very good range. I often find the pigment I want on their website then do a search and get it a lot cheaper...

    Startrite 14-S-5 Tyres

I finally got round to sorting out the tyres, it turns out I have about a 1/4" of rubber left on them but somebody had repainted the wheels and painted over the rubber making it look like there was non left! I used Deema's method of sanding them with a block and 80g mirka Abranet, worked a treat...
