    What metal pipe?

I thought metal, as I was thinking about metal chain - and that would be heavy (7m gap). However, gutter pipe might work with plastic chain..... I have som gutter downpipe offcuts somewhere to try for size. Good shout.... if nothing else it will refine the measurement needed (there is some...

    What metal pipe?

I am thinking of a low-tech, low investment parking deterrent for my drive. The drive gives access to my garaged car, so I do not want it blocked, but would look tempting as a parking space. My preferred solution would be a couple of posts with chain stretched between them. People could...

    Foiled again

I used a suction cup version - maybe not as high quality as your fitting, but has stayed on nicely without any drilling.

    Digital camera recomendations

If it looks like a good match for the requirements thenI would not baulk at, say, around 300gbp. I could go higher but would need strong justification. I would go lower if I did not lose anything that I thought was significant - for example, I don't think that video capabilities are going to...

    Digital camera recomendations

Thanks all, you are being incredibly helpful..... there is a lot of choice out there and lots of things to think about. Some of the technicalities go over my head, but then my wife is not very technical either. She is not going to be stalking rhinos of snapping down microscopes - reliably...

    Digital camera recomendations

LOML wants a camera as a step up from a phone camera. Mostly for wildlife photos, so ability to do close-up and zoom would be good. She is technically savvy (iOS and Android). Bluetooth or wifi connectivity to iPad would be good. The market seems crowded at slightly-better-than-beginner...

    Rawl plug removal?

Sounds simple - I have tried variations in the past with little success. Maybe I was not pulling hard enough - time to try it again.... Interesting, though that relies on the hole having been drilled deep enough..... some of the plugs here protrude from the wall because the hole was drilled...

    Rawl plug removal?

I am doing a little bit of diy (only 11 weeks of isolation and I have cracked already....). Are there any tricks for removing rawl plugs? If I cant pull them out I usually just cut them back with a knife, but yesterday I tried drilling the insides out. This worked well in about half the...

    Cars and batteries

Interesting - my VW camper had an almost completely flat battery my i10 seems to be coping well..... What is static drain? I have got a terminal-isolator on the battery earth terminal of the VW now. That should solve that. Wondering if I ought do more for the i10....

Power of Attorney - just a Heads Up to say ...

We did power of attorney through the government scheme and it was a breeze - a little long-winded but that was for the protection (of my mother in this case). We found the banks (especially santander) were brilliant, both with the POA and the execution of the will. On their response alone I...

    need security lighting advice

I have a reolink device. It is probably more tech than you need, but it will give you an idea..... I have a garage that is not attached to the house, no power, and too far for WiFi, so I have a solar-powered cctv camera that sends alerts(emails) and can be contacted over 3G. It has a...

    Electrical question

Plumber has just been and wont change the spec without say so from a qualified electrician - so what I think/find wont matter  So its 8.5kw and no 50 gbp saving. But thanks for the advice and pictures.

    Electrical question

Thanks Jake - there is a picture (several posts back) of the cable just before it enters the bathroom, complete with tape measure. Does that identify the cable?

    Electrical question

I guess that that is an assumption, but it was all part of the same job - the consumer unit (and choice of breaker) was installed to supply the shower, and the wiring to the bathroom (including fan/switches etc) was all installed new at the same time. Would that be an unsafe assumption? If so...
