    Stanley 386, Broken Wingbolt

Had a look, none in my bin - sorry. I have lots of No78 screws but they are way too short. It's the side screw that locks the depth stop in place. Fairly sure it's the same thread, i.e. 10/28 however this should be 0.19 (inch decimal) / 4.8mm in diameter whereas yours measures between 4.3 and...

    Stanley 386, Broken Wingbolt

I believe it is a 10/28 thread (so the 28 TPI makes sense) and used on the No78 as well (although shorter). I'm also aware gunsmiths in the US use this thread. I'll have a look through my box of bits, long shot but I may have some.

    Old Record, Stanley, Marples ...

US tool maker, Walke Moore do a version of the Tyzack / Preston router pattern; http://www.walkemooretools.com/shop/mat ... odel-2500/ Seems to be a never ending waiting list for it however $285 / £220 seems like an absolute steal now.

    why?

   priceless I suspect the Brexit discussion had bled into the other threads. The utter vitriol dished out and the level of sycophancy on the basic aspect of the 'precision or not' threads were surely not based on that topic alone. It all kicked off on Brexit D-Day. I...

    Old Record, Stanley, Marples ...

Yup, 2-3 years back I was trying to get hold of an older Stanley No8 and just had to walk away from the search for a long time because Wranglerstar did a vid of his new old tool No8. It passed but it's still nuts to think a smallholder in the middle of nowhere within the US can affect prices...

Power tool cases - what's it all about?

I have in the past used the liners in home made wall hangers which has proved useful. I basically build a shallow open box with a cleat on the back and slot the liner in. The tool is always to hand, has a permanent place to live and you know when it's not where it's supposed to be (if that makes...

Power tool cases - what's it all about?

I do wonder what cases / boxes add to the average cost of the actual tools and to what extent it possibly affects the design of the tool itself.

    Precise and Imprecise Tools?

Says the man who has deliberately used words out of context whilst conflating individual tool references to support an agenda of trying to call someone a liar, the second time in a week. I appreciate you probably have me on ignore MikeG but posting anyhow.

Stanton F400 Kiln - Free To A Good Home

I wasn't exactly clear Dokkodo, so my apologies for confusion. Not my decision anyhow. Good luck to the OP and whoever picks it. Just to add, there are loads of moving firms on Ebay who will probably deal with it. I've used piano movers in the past, they have all the right relevant kit and for...

    Precise and Imprecise Tools?

It's all relevant in the context of the times, they would have had variants of precision and imprecision as well. The argument is that the two possibilities exist within the context of tools not that precise tools are not available in any given timeframe.

    Precise and Imprecise Tools?

Less than 12 hours difference between the two statements. I get it, you have skills, knowledge and experience but so do others and often from similar and different perspectives; how hard is that to acknowledge and allow?

    Trouble shooting hand planes

Good point and an oft neglected detail. Fingertips will also help to line it up (albeit extremely carefully) and have been proven to detect discrepancies down to 13 nanometres  which is just nuts.

    Precise and Imprecise Tools?

+1 and no, not trying to fan the flames just cautious of it turning into something other than the topic. I would subscribe to that and add that consistency in accuracy is what further defines precision (IMO)

    Sds long extension

Most SDS extensions are below 350mm from what I've seen and they tend to have an arbor on the end as opposed to another SDS chuck. They may exist but can't say I've come across one myself. Can you share what you are trying to do? There may be other options.

Stanton F400 Kiln - Free To A Good Home

Had a word with my wife, she has enough kilns (3) so drop me off the list if at all still relevant and knock Dokkodo up the chain. Good luck in shifting it.

Steam / relax drying kilns - Sauno

hi Togs, appreciate the response, as mentioned to Chirs152, I want to understand the Sauno before buying and your findings pretty much instil that need. I suspect I could build one of these but can't get my head around the process. That said, I appreciate the cost of the device is more than the...

Steam / relax drying kilns - Sauno

That's a good point, I pass the Cardiff branch about once a month, I'll pop in and have a word. I've read that Fine woodworking book, little dated but still relevant and proven to be useful. Monitoring / controlling is not an issue, used to be an electronics engineer many many many moons ago and...

Steam / relax drying kilns - Sauno

Will do, thanks for the input. I've spoken with an owner and even Logosol direct, both ends of that spectrum seemed to treat it like Harry Potter Magic without any details. I understand it steams / heats the chamber with additional water present and then dries with a heater element and fans...
