    Just upgraded to Windows10

At work (school) my trusty W7 machine was unceremoniously ripped out by IT & replaced by a laptop, as i use it for 2d design drawing work for the kids i was not a happy bunny. I find it painfully slow & a pain to get to grips with. Our home pc is being replaced by a new one with W10, Im keeping...

    Bagpress Vacuum System

The school where i work bought one, very expensive for what they are though works well. Buy a Vac pump of ebay for a lot less. If the bag gets a leak you will never find it & end up running the pump continuously. Out of interest the sealing profile is simply standard electrical conduit with...

    Union Graduate Wood Lathe

Why thank you! Re the chuck, i am not sure what make it is as there do not seem to be any markings on it, Its actually a 4 jaw & came with the lathe & im pretty sure it was original equipment. It is definately a woodturning chuck as it takes the standard axminster jaws of which there are...

    Boschmann ???

I have seen these Boschmann tools here in Essex, they exclusively seem to be sold out of white transit vans by Irish travellers. They are not even that cheap. Sold alongside cheap spanners made of lead alloy & copies of other stuff all obviously made in china & designed to fail within 5 minutes...

Interesting comments re education! I have some experience as i am a D&T technician, I started part time at a local college 18 years ago & 6 years ago started in a secondary school, I have seen the curriculum change & d&t become so academic to the point that the kids could not hope to gain any...

    Elm trees

Down here in south essex all the mature elms died back in the 60's, we had a few stands of wych elm? that survived until about 5 years ago over Hadleigh country park but they too succumbed. The trees do survive in a way as they sucker from the roots readily & keep growing this way for a long...

    Bronze Plane

You may well be right, the casting is definately a bronze, probably gunmetal & is very finely done, would have been a lot of work for a user to make though, could have been an apprentice piece? Going to sharpen it up & see how it works!

    Bronze Plane

I recently acquired this bronze plane at an antiques centre oop north, perhaps polished a bit too much but at least it hadnt been subjected to the wire brush & angle grinder treatment like a Spiers that was in the next bay! Got it for what i thought was a reasonable price after knocking the guy...
