    Mortice machine.

There is an urban myth that you can get a Sedgwick for £500. I am not saying you cannot but I gave up waiting for it to turn up and bought a Record chiwanese which is the same as Axminsters and several others. Very happy with it. It would eat 1" softwood mortises for breakfast. I have been...

    Starting a career in woodworking?

From a training perspective, there is a growing demand for joiners so it may be that the CITB are encouraging firms to take on more apprentices. Register with bConstructive and see what is available. An apprenticeship as a bench joiner is going to give you some of the skills needed. The pay...

do i need a table saw?

If it is a one off then find a good timber supplier and go in with a cutting list and a picture they should be able to cut the clean edges for you. Far cheaper then buying any tool. If however your girlfriend has a long list of other things she wants then a table saw or track saw will be needed.

    Woodrat Dovetail Joints

I have had the same problem one end is fine the other is out. I have not worked out a solution yet but I plan to work it out soon. You end up with a mirror image of what you need which seems to suggest you need to turn the timber over.

Hardly pocket sized but the 3M 7500 really is excellent

    door seal

If you use a modern double glazing unit it is very difficult to to achieve 44mm. You can use the narrow dg units and achieve 44mm but you probably cannot achieve the u value requirement. I made a few French windows and the 57mm door was the only way I could achieve the u value. The downside is...

Aquamac 21 is the one for doors though I sometimes also use 63 as well

    Drawer sides

I am obviously a bit more 'industrial' as I have always made drawer sides 12 to 15mm thick and usually out of beach

Buy used Startrite 352 or new Record BS400?

Thank you for the update, it is always interesting to hear what happened next. Before spending that amount have you physically looked at the BS400 to make sure it is worth spending the extra £400 plus. Also at that price look at the Hammer N4400

    Length-ways bevel cut

The thing I like about this forum is that someone will come up with a truly innovative way of doing things. However on this occasion we seem to be losing the plot big time. The OP asked how to put a bevel on the edge of a piece of wood 6 inches long. We have had several machine suggestions...

Rigid ducted dust extraction - any hints and tips?

Axminster and others sell a universal clamp that you use with a jubilee clip for this.

Rigid ducted dust extraction - any hints and tips?

In answer to your points: 1. In short yes. If you have a reasonable sized table saw or P/T then you probably need 750cf/m at the point of extraction. working back the more bends and different legs you have the more suck you loose but even with a straight run you can say goodbye to 25 to 30%...

Dealing with Dust for home workshop

Dealing with dust is very difficult. I know I keep saying this but look at Bill Penz website. It takes some following but it does make sense and since I followed the advice my air quality is much better. Collecting dust from a mitre saw is the most difficult. You need to move a lot of air and...

Buy used Startrite 352 or new Record BS400?

There is an excellent review of the Record BS400 on this forum which is well worth the read. I am biased, I bought one a year ago, it is an excellent machine. It may be made in the Far East but it is a substantial, robust machine with the benefit of Record's 5 year Guarantee It is worth...

    Felder woodworking machine/s.

I also have a CF741P which is a 2004 model. It is very accurate and does everything I need. Look at your space carefully there is no point having a 2.6m wide sliding table that travels 5.5m plus if you cannot use it. So if you have the space it is a good option. The singles option is not a one...
