Fred Dibnah is back on the telly

A wonderful man to chat too, I met him at the steam rally at Cromford Derbyshire and as he described how to make a part was so fascinating you could listen to him all day, the country lost a great man there.

Another Denford Bowl lathe hopefully back from the dead!

Yes it is a very powerful way to go the original step pulleys are still there to use so gives you the option of really low speed -high torque for the larger work or variable low to high speed it's a win win I think over a VFD.

Another Denford Bowl lathe hopefully back from the dead!

No the previous owner had changed it for a 1hp DC motor and bolted on the base under the tailstock was a veriac, it worked well a lot of power and variable speed, you can get some big bowls out of these lathes, I also made a bolt-on extension for the tailstock to move out more so I could turn...

Thanks everyone J-G PM sent, I have the one Sachakins posted about in my watch list if all else fails rather dirty and rusty but could work on it. Fergie, the 3 jaw chuck looks like it had been dropped and parts of the scroll thread are missing, again the tail-stock has a crack in the casting...

Paul not a stupid idea, A few months ago I came across a post on another forum that gave me the inspiration of another tool I was missing a slow rpm diamond grinding/honing plate, I had been looking online at different machines for doing it, but mostly based on a std grinder in my past...

Wood, brass and amethyst inlay cast in epoxy resin

A simple way is to make a block at 45 deg like one in the image, does not need to be as fancy as these just be able to reproduce the angle. You could use a saw to rough cut then finish with a file on a block. The four in the image are double ended to cover 8 different deg's. Keep up the good work.

Wood, brass and amethyst inlay cast in epoxy resin

I like your work very much the leaves in the centre look superb in with the stone very well done, my only comment would be the brass corners need to be mitred. I would love to see some more images of your work and I agree you don't need to copy you have a good design eye so please keep them coming.

    top slide / compound slide

Hi betterbo, Have a look at these cross slide has a piece missing out of end tee slot but might not matter to how you might want to use it, top or vertical slide has good possibilities with a little work fitting it to your lathe, one or both if any good to you (free to a good home) , you...

    top slide / compound slide

I think I have a tee slotted casting in the shed similar to the one JG shows if it's any help, there might even be the makings of a top slide as well I can have a look tomorrow. Would only cost you the postage.

Wanted 50 mm to 60 mm dia chuck

Maybe a long shot but I am looking for a small 50 mm to a max 65 mm dia 3 jaw or 4 jaw chuck if anyone has one hiding in the draw. My small 3 jaw had been dropped at some time and is badly out of true. Have tried some new Indian ones but they are not well finished.
