    Nutool lathe

Assuming you still have the old one, take it to a motor factors. If they don't have one in stock they will have a catalogue of thousands. S PS I once made an entire set of dining chairs on one of those.

Recommend me a Nailer / Stapler

I can give you a rec for one to avoid. Tacwise/Rapesco. The biggest piece of junk I've ever had the misfortune to spend money on. By a country mile.

    TV licence requirements

The only reason I don't do that is that it kind of legitimises their desire to come poking around. I've been left alone for a few years now, but at one time it was regular. I used to tell him that he was welcome to enter, if armed with a search warrant and accompanied by a police officer. Good...

    Scones

When I make pastry, or anything of that ilk (including scones), I think of all the lovely ladies I have ever known. Beautiful Belinda, Lovely Linda, Sexy Sue and Voluptuous Vera. Light, delicate handling. Aaahhhh. But when I make bread, and to me help beat the living daylights out of it, I...

    Scones

The secret I have always found is to sift the flour well. Air, that is the magic ingredient. It is difficult with SR flour, as it goes everywhere. Do it outside if the weather is nice. Not done any for ages, must remedy that.

    Steve's workbench build

Holdfasts work by racking (or is it wracking? I'm not quite sure). The hole has to be slightly bigger than the holdfast. If they were size-for-size the holdfast would not grab. So actually there is contact at only two points with a round hole or 2/4 points, depending on the orientation, with a...

Well my existing bench has square holes and they work fine in that. With round holes you can only used round dogs, but with square holes you can use round or square dogs. S

    Steve's workbench build

Hi Doug, yes he does and I'm going back for some, maybe tomorrow. The two boards I've bought to make the apron are a bit scruffier than I thought. Perfectly functional, of course, but not pretty. I think I'll use them to block up the legs instead and get some Unsorted for the apron. I'm really...

    Steve's workbench build

Whilst I had my dado set installed, I milled a few necessary grooves and rebates, for the sliding deadman, the tool well and the tail-vice mechanism. I have a special fence for doing this, where the featherboards push the workpiece down and in towards the fence at the same time. But I said...

3/4" Bench Dogs - clearances for making your own.

Talking of keeping them in place, my dogs all have a wooden spring. Great when they were new, but after 20 years of being under pressure, there are all bent and work less well. Some have actually broken. I'm incline to make my next batch just a loose fit, stopped by a crosspin. A couple of...

    Walnut Coffee Table

Yes, you have gone too far, too close to the top of the legs. Lesson learned for next time, eh? If I were in such a predicament, I think I would put some wood back into the mortice. A nice snug piece, with the grain in line. Properly done, it will make the leg as strong as it would have been if...
