    Mens Sheds

If the OP is applying for a job which involves setting up a men's shed, it might not be the best tactic to tell his prospective employers that he would rather set up something else. Perhaps arguing the case after he's got the job might be the way to go. Maybe his best tactic would be to say he...

    Mens Sheds

We've tried to keep the space we have as multi-purpose as possible so that it doesn't look like a workshop, but we have been donated a few large power tools and it has inevitably ended up that way. Most of the members want to do practical things and everybody is helping with the refurbishment of...

    Mens Sheds

I will try and give you my perspective on this. I retired at 63 and then set out on the biggest DIY project of my life. After the best part of 3 years working at home every day I reached the point when I felt that I needed to get away from the house a couple of days a week and men in sheds...

Kity 413 bandsaw, what are they worth?

I have both a Kity 613 and an Inca bandsaw both of which I am very happy with. I have never heard of a Kity 413 but looking at the images on the internet it is definitely not a rebranded Inca as suggested in the thread that marcros linked to but in my opinion all older Kity machines were built...

First air nailer gun kit. Looking for recommendations

My small compressor came from b&q along with a small nail gun some years ago. I have since purchased a much larger framing nailer and the small compressor still copes with that. A small compressor is an asset to any small workshop and needs very little maintenance.

    Pointing between paving slabs

My advice is based on personal experience. We had patio slabs layed by a trusted builder but he pointed them with a Marshall's product I think was called whethershilde 365. The results were so bad that after 12 months I decided to spend a day and a half digging it out with a screwdriver and...

Any Kity 513 owners here? My new toy....

I have a Kity universal machine that I purchased new over 35 years ago and the 613 bandsaw that I purchased second hand but I think must be over 20 years old and all I can say is that although by today's standards the design is basic the machines are solid and accurate and even if money was no...

Any Kity 513 owners here? My new toy....

The blade guide on my 613 is quite substantial. It has two metal rotating discs.

Any Kity 513 owners here? My new toy....

I own a Kity 613 and from your photos it looks similar. Although you can't buy them new anymore if you can find a good second hand one as it seems you have in my opinion you would not get a better saw at an affordable price. Mine sits on a table with a hole cut below the hole on the bottom of...

MFT tables - do you use them?

If all you need is a surface to clamp things to any bit of MDF with random holes drilled into it will do.

MFT tables - do you use them?

Pardon? How did we suddenly go from mft tops to mitre saws?

MFT tables - do you use them?

If you don't have a track saw there is no reason to have the mft table top, if you do have a track saw you don't need the mft table top.

    Heavy duty old power tools

I'm a bit surprised that you haven't had a reply from someone with more knowledge than me but I would think that the ripsnorter saw is an item that would be of interest to a lot of people and would be best sold on an auction site. As for the other items I don't know I have a few myself that I...

    Machining Box Joints

How did this topic suddenly go from a cheapish dovetail jig to a top notch incra jig?

    Machining Box Joints

    Fair play to you.

    Machining Box Joints

It may help if you could explain how you would do box joints on the jig you linked to.

    Paving Grout

With the help of a builder friend I layed a path with paving slabs and he ordered pointing sand that was different to both sharp and building sand. I also had a patio laid by a different builder and he used the stuff that you just sweep into the joints my advice is not to be tempted to use that...

New workshop project about to start

Having quickly scanned this thread I would suggest that if you think you can lay that much concrete on your own you would be better off not trying to build it.

    Palm router

+9 for the katsu. The op didn't say how much work he was going to put it to and as usual some replies have assumed that he or she is a professional maker but for those of us who are mere mortals the katsu is amazing.
