    Decline in Valued Contributors???

That's a really good point about engagement with WIPs, it's rare to see a good critique these days. It can be so helpful to get a balanced view of what is good about your piece but also what can elevate it to the next level. I think a lot of those who were able to do this have moved elsewhere

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Don't know if our local men's shed is the same one Rob is referring to (North Cotswolds I think) but they put out a lot ot bird boxes and the like at the local GPs surgery, never seem to sell though

    Axminster Bandsaw AWEFSBB

Hi Saleem, I haven't used many others to compare them but I've had this model for about 20 years and it's never let me down. The blade guide design is a bit limited, but it uses standard bearings so they are easy to replace. Put a decent blade from somewhere like Trucut or Tuffsaws on it and it...

    New lathe

My inclination would be to buy from somewhere like Axminster, who can offer practical support, or Yandles, where you have a physical shop selling known brands with good parts back up. Rutland's are ok if everything works straight out of the box, but lacking in customer service these days it...

    Vaccum pump

Random thought but if the work is porous and on a vacuum chuck, why not slap a coat of sanding sealer on and let the vacuum pull it into the wood. Hopefully it will seal deeply enough to allow you to keep turning

    Homemade Kolrosing Knife

A most intriguing process, that knife looks like it will be comfortable to hold. Does the cap act as the burnisher?

    Pressure Washer

This is what I use at work. Every other year is enough here as it's fairly open, if your site is shaded an annual dose should do the job. Used to take a full day with a pressure washer, now an hour with a sprayer and nature does the rest...

    Blocking-up Summerhouse French Doors

Wrote the post in a hurry, meant to read cut some batten to the correct size to allow boards to sit flush. I'd probably just line the door frame with tile batten and screw on a sheet of plywood with a few horizontal slots router top and bottom

    New toys

You did well to be so restrained ;) 'Fortunately' Axminster opened the Basingstoke branch 2 months after we left

    Blocking-up Summerhouse French Doors

Quick and dirty method stud and board behind them with a ventilation gap top and bottom, take the inner door handle off and staple the blind to the door for the look, then cut down some batten to the right dimension to let the board sit flat. Quick and reversible if needed. Looks like the doors...

    Whatttt already

Local mini Tesco had a prominent display of Easter eggs yesterday, suppose they needed something to fill the space left by mince pies

    woodwork lathe

I'm not familiar with your particular model but from the few photos I saw online it looks like what's known as a reeves drive, there was a good description on here by member CHJ although I can't find the thread at the moment

That doesn't seem too bad as a proportion of income when compared to a UK minimum wage of £9.50

Nutshell: Some internet troll was tracked down and arrested after his choice of pizza takeaway was shown in pics online

    Raised Planters.

Can't really explain the science of it but in 30+ years as a gardener I've found that a good woven landscape fabric will pretty much double the life of treated timber in contact with compost. Most plants in these sorts of planters are annuals/replaced seasonally so root penetration is not a big...

    Raised Planters.

Like Bingy man says, they'll be outdoors, and in contact with damp from the compost. I'd use it as is but be sure to staple some woven weed membrane around the inside to help protect the timber longer

    Joke Thread II

Had an MG Midget many years ago, could drop the top and drive under the barriers in the local multi storey car park. It was in the days before artic trailers had side safety bars so the motorway was a bit hairy at times
