Dealing with rats in subfloor void

You can get a trap in a box, useful if pets could get to it, but as it's under the floor that shouldn't be a problem. I'd always use a box for bait though.

Dealing with rats in subfloor void

Telltale signs are greasy black marks along walls and around holes where their runs are. Young rats can get through a terracotta air brick so it's worth checking them. If you've only just bought the traps you may have to fettle them to get them to work efficiently. There are often burs on...

what type of saw or similar would be most suited for thin slots (photo holders)

Is it possible to cut a slot into the mould that would allow you to insert a piece of metal or plastic that would form the groove to hold the picture during the casting stage? Just 'thinking out loud' as I haven't cast plaster since a '70s craft kit thing with what looked like a novelty condom...

    New (old) Inca 205 bandsaw

Looks a bit odd that there's a keyway slot in the wheel but not on the spindle. Has the motor been replaced perhaps?

Food (child) safe coloured pens for turning

I guess 'bright' and dyes don't go together on many woods. I've used chestnut dyes successfully on pale woods, but in narrow bands I don't think you'd get a good contrast between the bands. Not sure if they'd be toy safe but Jo Sonja paints come in some great colours, otherwise Rustoleum do some...

    Eh?!

Aldi/evri is annoying, but Royal Mail is worse. I was expecting a package recently and when I logged in to check its progress the website told me that tracking would be available once the parcel had been delivered :dunno:

    Eh?!

Had a similar situation with an order from them, try googling Hermes tracking and enter your tracking number there, worked for me when Aldi and evri websites were useless Edit to add it still took 2 weeks

End Grain Hollowing, should I consider a Carbide tool?

Flip it around, hollow it from the other end then plug the base

    Buying An Aluminium Scaffold Tower

If you are not in a rush, and aluminium isn't essential then look out for a second hand Henchman platform. The higher version puts the 7½ ft long platform at 10ft, and with outriggers it's stable enough for me to use a long reach hedge cutter at full stretch without feeling unsafe. As an added...

    Jet 1220 Bed Extension

Axminster's own brands and Delta machines were often identical to Jet, is this any good? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275533114870?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=eHOaVLmwSuq&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=_XwgzqajSc-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Any one made a sharpening jig for this or similar machine

When I first started turning I made one rather like this: If you can take the table off the linisher side and fabricate a bracket to hold the foot I think that could work

    Chucks

If I was starting from scratch I'd go for the Versachuck, it's an extra ~£70 initially compared with the SC3, but the ability to swap out the jaw carriers and not have to scrabble in the shavings for lost screws is a major bonus
  14. Tris

    Chucks

Of those two I'd go for the SC3 as it should take the full range of jaws from Record, Sorby and Nova. SC2 looks a bit limited for jaw range

I've carved it when seasoned so don't see why it wouldn't turn. It moves a lot whilst drying

    Funeral urns

Would this be big enough? https://www.turners-retreat.co.uk/large-42mm-egg-ring/p2421 Someone reviewed larger ones in a recent Woodturning magazine, but I can't remember where they were from. Will try to look later

    Pyrography set in Aldi

If it's the same as the one they had in a couple of years ago it is let down by poorly fitting bits, or maybe the threaded part of the iron expands too much when hot. I found I had to keep tightening the bit with pliers whilst working, and as the threads are smaller that the Lidl version a...

Campervan cabinetry - ply & MDF novice Q's

If you haven't already seen it Magnum Motorhomes website is well worth a look. Useful info on builds and a gallery of vans people have converted for ideas. Having dismantled caravans before it's amazing how much strength is in 2 sheets of 3.5mm ply glued to a thin timber frame

What are the definitive smells of the 70s?

Swill bins during warm weather, and the combination of stale beer and *** smoke on a Sunday morning whilst cleaning the bar
