    Guttering advice

When reading this please bear in mind I'm an enthusiastic amateur, not a roofer. Pic 4 wants a downpipe and shoe, I'm thinking directing the water may help keep the gully clear and will prevent splash. Pic 2 replace the black gutter with a deeper profile if there's a lot of water coming over the...

I am retired broadcast engineer now doing diy carpentry, electrical etc general hobbies. I have lots of good quality test equiments, tools etc.

Hello Dinesh, and welcome to the forum. You've probably already thought of this but is there any bridging between the segments on the commutator? Have seen that cause problems before

    What is this?

It's a bit of a guess but it looks like it may be for pulling chains, the jaws clamp on a link like pliers, the hook catches a link, then a ratchet can pull the chain up tight by closing the handles tighter as the tension increases.

    Notes From "Moy Gaaden"

Always interesting to hear other people's experiences of a year. Leeks, onions, carrots, parsnips, french/runner beans, all very good this year. Brassicas are all looking good after a total loss last year. Squash are a total loss, and courgettes are now collapsing after some cold nights...

    We're living in strange times.

Lid doesn't count, has to be on the toast. Or spread it in the cat's back, next time it falls off something it'll stay spinning in mid air, unless if course it is in a box. Dried frog pills anyone?

    India’s successful Moon Landing

Totally off the original topic, but if this article is to be believed then none of the government's attempts to make the UK less desirable will work. If we already have an established diaspora then those nationalities will keep coming...

    India’s successful Moon Landing

The bit that made me laugh was the chap who, when questioned why that spot had been chosen, said if they find ice it can support human exploration and make lunar missions sustainable!

Are you sure it's not bamboozled bonobo? Easy to get them mixed up 😉 Whichever one, it's a lovely piece.

Smashed/cracked sunroof old Honda jazz, wanted Ford Galaxy

There used to be a decent scrapyard up Chineham way and the lads there would often do weekend jobs if you wanted something fitting. Don't know if it's still going as we are no longer in the area Thanks to Google maps it's Bryan Hirst breakers

    Buying cheap tools

My grandfather had one just the same as that and it had a hedge cutter attachment. The main thing I recall is the extension lead started out twice the length of the hedge and ended too short to reach 🤔

    Buying cheap tools

Rather like the companies that use custom fasteners to stop people getting in to a product to fix it, that's why I have a selection of old screwdrivers that have been modified over the years. Haven't been beaten yet

    Spares for repairs

Reading the cheap tools thread got me thinking, as there are a lot of people here who like to fix things perhaps we should have a thread for suppliers of spare parts. Solent tools: all sorts of parts for DIY and garden equipment LM electrical, via eBay: excellent service and a good range of...

    Buying cheap tools

When you get into repairing stuff it's surprising how many shared components there are. In the last few weeks we've had a cooker and a tumble drier element go. The cooker element fits 5 different makes, and the drier element fits 12 different machines although some with a slightly different...

If I've read it correctly it sounds like you need a bulkhead fitting: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394241409993?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=u9mtpgtgr8w&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=_XwgzqajSc-&var=662755770623&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

    Parkside surface planer

Looks like you are getting much better stuff than we are! I bought a very similar looking ferrex one from Aldi a few years back, fence is a bit flimsy and it's VERY NOISY. That said the ability to have the timber the thickness I want for a project is worth every penny and at least if there's...

    2 stroke garden machinery frustration

A tree surgeon friend often says if you like tinkering with engines buy a husqvarna, if you like earning buy a Stihl. We have a husqvarna rotavator at work and this season it started cutting out as soon as it got warmed up, that turned out to be a bad plug. There was still a spark when cold but...
