Warning / Price hike , VAT

Just wait until Chinese stop pegging their currency to the dollar. Everything coming from them will go up 20-40%. Of course, a few years after that some jobs might actually come back to you (and us) as a result. Kirk[/quote Sorry to add to the gloom, but if the Chinese economy keeps growing...

Warning / Price hike , VAT

Just filled our 2500 litre oil tank with 2000 litres. Nearly 70p a litre. Ten years ago it was 14p. So £1400 for something we will burn. Grrr.

    Hobbiest workshop

Whenever I see an American workshop I am always blown away by the space. This one is just spell binding. Back to reality and into the shed to fight my way through the detritus to find my tools!

    Mdf dust eye irritation

I woke up today with a really sore eye. Yesterday I was doing some fine sanding on an mdf router template for about half an hour or so. I had my specs on, but not protective goggles. Could there be a connection? Cheers Steve

    Router base plate screws

Hi folks, Does anyone know where I can get some screws to fix an Elu Mof 96/2 to my router table insert? Also do you know what size they need to be? My educated guess is 6x20mm. Many thanks. Steve

    Blinking Rutlands again

I suspect they'll charge vat at the prevailing rate at the date of invoice. Otherwise they'll be liable for the extra tax. I hope they honour their current prices. Cheers Steve

    Blinking Rutlands again

Do you still get the discount and free posting on out of stock items? That would make their trend routers a pretty reasonable buy. I had a so-so experience with Rutlands. Very slow delivery - but it was snowy. Item arrived slightly damaged with a part missing. They were very nice, but never...

    Adding drainage to garage floor

@Matt Brilliant. Your DPC idea is now my top solution - I can take it up when we have a dry spot (tee hee). @Keith You are probably right here, but frankly I can't face that job. When the garage was built 2 years ago  I got the builder to paint it with floor paint. With hindsight I...

    Adding drainage to garage floor

The problem , Jeff, is that the water is coming in on the car. It is a big problem in this weather. Cheers Steve

    Adding drainage to garage floor

Cheers Dibs, I had imagined that my grooves would open to the outside, like the grooves on a draining board. It struck me that there needs to be no fall on the grooves, provided that the outflow is at the bottom of the cut. I have one of those squeegie broom things (which is excellent) but it...

    Adding drainage to garage floor

Not sure if is the best place for this post, but I'm thinking of retrofitting drainage to my garage floor. Every time it snows I remember I need to do something about this. The snow melts from the car and floods the floor. Unfortunately there is no fall on the floor (apart from away from the...

    No 1 son'r Christmas present

That's lovely, Pete, I also think it's better to make gifts, but after a fatal dig-in which ruined a nice Yew box I had been working on for my Mum, I'm starting to think that Amazon has a lot to offer!! All the best, Steve

New Hobby Help with choosing a Lathe!

Hi and Welcome You probably don't want to hear this advice, but don't buy anything yet if you can join a club and find out if you enjoy turning. I bought a relatively cheap Axminster Perform CCSL. Great little lathe, but extremely limiting. Now that I have it, I can't really justify the...
