    Another lighting question

There a quite a lot of calculations regarding lighting but the distance from the work surface to the light fitting and the angle affect the amount of actual lighting you get along with other things. There are actual calculations you can do if you want to be precise. I did an NVQ2 in electrical...

    Led light panels

I think the colour we see will vary person to person as we are not all the same. The colour charts are a guide to what is expected. For workshop use I prefere cool lighting around 6000k which is more like working in daylight. I don't see 6000k as "blue" in itself but it can enhance the blue...

    Table Saw Riving Thing

As above. Pinching if the wood being cut generally occurs when ripping through the full depth of the timber. Tensions in the timber can cause the cut wood to close on the open end of the cut which in turn results in the wood pinching the sides of the blade and acting like a clamp then...

How to identify Paint grade melamine edging from normal melamine edging?

Yes I agree and have ordered 100m from the previous supplier. The ebay supplier is a craft seller and probably not able to tell the difference. I can't use it on locations that are seen but if I end up having to keep it I could use it on the back of units that go against the wall etc so not...

How to identify Paint grade melamine edging from normal melamine edging?

Yes maybe I should contact ebay but the seller may not realise that they are selling paint grade edging so I'd like to check with people on here that may have used paint grade melamine edging. In any case I can not use the edging as it retains marks and that's not acceptable for a new kitchen.

How to identify Paint grade melamine edging from normal melamine edging?

Hi all, recently purchased some melaimne edging from ebay in White to finish off a kitchen I'm doing and when it arrived is is slightly off white, not a huge difference from what I have been using but still not as white as I am used to. I have already used 150m of melamine edging from a...

Catch for "cupboard" door for exterior use

I don't know if a self closing gate spring would work for you but worth a mention (put on the inside or out). Whatever you use if it rusts just replace it when needed, £2-£5 for a replacement won't break the bank.

    8 x 4 board lifter

That looks like MELAMINE FACED MDF? I was thinking about using it for a kitchen but went for MFC in the end. How do you find it in comparison?

    8 x 4 board lifter

Very simple design that seems to work very well. I might look at making something similar but with a temorary lock for the wheels and support platform once the sheet is horizontal. I had to cut several 8'x4' sheets down for a kitchen last month and ended up cutting most of them down the...

Any new panel products for making kitchen cupboards?

Some people like Birch Ply for kitchens but I'm a bit on the shelf with using it because of hygine. Ply needs a decent long lasting finish applied to it and even the toughest will harbour germs once the finish starts to scratch/chip. I mostly use MFC but the face does wear over time so you...

    Yeti

I have read in a post on here that the owner of a YETI did not find his machine as accurate as he needed so has now gone for a standard CNC setup. The accuracy stated on the YETI site is 0.5mm which is no where near as good as other CNC machines can do and would make building cabinets that...

Anyone got a suggestions for cutting 6-8mm thick perspex

I have a CNC with spindle and the rescommended bit on a CNC for perspex etc is a single flute up cut bit. "Single flute" so the waste material clears quickly and does not rub against the perspex causing met. "Up cut" again pulls the waste material out and away quickly helping keep the cut...

Mitre saw blade choice for hardwood

60 to 80 teeth Tripple chip negative rake would be good for laminate but might get cloged up with wood waste and start to overheat if used for hardwood. For hardwood 60 teeth would be enough and alternate ground. Negative rake is pretty much standard on mitre saws. The number of teeth...

    CNC dust and smoke management

CNC router/spindle cutters should be set at the right speed and feed to produce chips so mesh in this case would not work very well. Dust can cause rubbing and burn out the cutters so the aim is to produce chips that can be cleared. Using mesh for just a laser might work though.

    Laser upgrade

First thing is ther are different types of laser beams each with their advantages and disadvantages: Diode, Fiber CO2 etc. Metals generally require a different laser beam tham say wood. I think it has something to do with the lenght of the beam. I have a 20w Diode laser that will cut 10mm ply...
