    door lock & hinge jigs

The only time I've ever used a router on a door was for cutting the hole for the letter plate.

    Tape measure

I want an imperial only Stanley tape, but the only way is ordering from the states. I've got a really old Stanley (imp only) but it is only 6ft in length

    Tape measure

I use the 8m Powerlock. Used Stanley tapes for the last 6 years after snapping a LOT of cheapo tapes. Stanleys seem to be way more resilient. The only other tape I've had that was as good as the Stanely was an old 25ft Lufkin. My dad has an account at the local George Hill's. So I go in and...

    door lock & hinge jigs

I'd agree. I've never used a router for morticing hinges and find it easy and quick enough using hammer & chisel. On one job I worked on the company had a lock morticer. After initially looking forward to using it, we found that setting the thing up and getting it cramped to the door was a...

    Axminster Sawtooth cutters

I use Forstners quite a lot in my cordless drill. However, some of them are started to get a bit dull. Looking through Axminster, I saw the saw tooth cutters. Are they just a more aggressive version of a Forstner and are they ok for cordless drills?

Stanley planes - USA vs GB

Thanks Jasper and Alf. That link looks good. I'll check out my plane when I get home. Thing is, not a lot of it is standard. The knob and tote were very battered, so have been swapped for Crown replacements. Swapped the iron and cap iron for Hock replacements. So all that is original is the...

    Screw Extractors

Think these are the same/similar thing Colin was describing, work in the same as Nick W's method (which I'd guess would be cheaper :D ) http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cgi-bin/psProdDet.cgi/DKWSE2

Stanley planes - USA vs GB

So as not to take any other stanley related thread off on a tangent, and apologies if this has been asked a million times before. Is there any way of determining the age of a plane if it is made in the US or GB? I've got a Stanley 5 1/2 (iron width 2 3/8"), stamped 'Made in USA' behind the...

    Footwear

During my apprenticeship working on sites, I had to steel toe capped boots. To be honest, I hated them and found them cumbersome. So I'd wear my trainers when possible. I'm self employed now and all the work I do is at private home owners, so I don't have to wear protective headwear...

    Screw Extractors

The other day I was fitting a door at my parents house. My dad had got a pair of butt hinges wth a brushed steel finish. Quite nice actually, until I saw the screws for them. Just looking at them I knew they would strip easily. So was being careful but had to adjust the top slightly as the frame...

    Planing & Thicknessing Technique

Hehe, It was the first reason mate. Stopped drinking at around 3am, and thought it was best I had something to eat and drink plenty of water before getting some kip. So thought I'd spend the time here whilst eating :D Had to be up early Christmas Day morning too, so only got about 4 hours...

I saw dome Husqvarna trousers on a website. 'Saw resistant, not proof'

    Chainsaws

I'd like to know what they put in those trousers and how good they are at stopping you cutting your legs off? I also think those orange Husqvarna Boots look cool :D

    Planing & Thicknessing Technique

I remember making that mistake when I was an apprentice. I had to make a similar size bead/batten. I ripped it down to around 1/8" oversize, passed it though through the thicknesser and was greeted with a bead, when looking at the end grain, resembled a parallelogram. In the case of the timber I...
