Cutting and bending 6mm sheet steel on a budget

If it's just mild steel straps, then a large cold chisel would do it. This isn't what I'd suggest to get a nice bend, just showing the blunt chisel which could be used to start off a sharp bend, and get you most of the way there. Foot is featured because this malarkey below makes a missile of...

Advice please re: blade for 10" table saw

Trevanion's treatise is the best I've came across. http://www.thewoodhaven2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5266

    Strange query

Have u not got a wheelbarrow? Only kidding, the washer sounds like a much better idea!

    Startrite 440r bandsaw

Make sure you can see it running first....with a wide blade, as a narrow blade can hide issues, especially if that machine is like the 502e with cambered tires. That machine I mentioned wasn't sold for long, and was replaced with another similar machine, I may have seen one of those being sold...

Workshop Interior - suggestions and critique

Hello, regarding your goal, my opinion may not suit, but I will give my 2cents anyway. I don't see any emphasis for ripping timbers, be it with a tablesaw or larger bandsaw. Planning for this before you start making workshop abutments, would likely make designing the rest more straight forward...

    Angle grinders, managing vibration

Just posting this here, as I've never thought of doing such a thing!

    Inflator

I've never ever seen a heel with so little meat, makes me think it might not be the usual. Presuming you've checked/tried to about this. Note your measurements and whether that's under string tension or not, if questioning this, look at John Hall's (official Martin repairman and Blues Creek...

    Graduate lathe castors anyone ?

Worth a look, as are many of his retractable caster designs

    Glue at lower temperatures

Not sure what your shed/workshop is like. Mine is un-insulated and damp. I found a consumer grade heat gun no good for the shed, the thermal mass of the timber is far too great for even a wee plug/"dutchman" or the likes. Those heat guns are pretty much the same rating as a common oil rad, my...

Bad buying decisions or tool regrets

I bought much the same deal before, with the intention of grinding them to a nicer profile. Possibly a good excuse to buy a used 6" grinder for the same money as the chisels, and buy some slim wheels for it. Worst tools I've bought that I can recall.. Too pants to even bother attempting to...

Single most useful tool in your shop

That method can be double checked with a bit of bent stock. I find it more reliable on my machine. And if you've got any left, you can use a bit for tramming other stuff

I forgot to put the blade tension back on my bandsaw...

There's seemingly a lot to be said about seeing how the blade behaves whilst being undertensioned, i.e how much flutter will be present. If you tried this on a flat tyred machine, and you were playing by the rules, then the blade would jam into the thrusts very abruptly, and that's when hand...

You could probably just leave it as is.

Willow bandsaw fitting new polyurethand tyres

@Viking I didn't spot your wheels are like whats seen on bandsaw mills, with a lip on the back, I cant make out if there's a lip on the front of not, but it may seem so also. (I was on another forum regarding that video, so had my folder open) Might it be worth seeing how a dry fit works before...

How best to partially thin stripwood

By hand, some sort of rebating hand plane would do it. Lots which would get the job done, Stanley 45 or Record equivalent, but there are cheaper options in cast iron, likely plenty of cheap woodies to choose from, as well as some more pricey moving filister planes. Not sure I'd want to be using...

Willow bandsaw fitting new polyurethand tyres

Suppose you may have seen this video before, Might it be worth trying something similar with such small wheels, don't know. Might it be more of a fight than for larger wheels, could be. Some cobblers use an oven for the job of warming the adhesive, but wait for it to completely dry on both...

Thicknesser is blowing fuses - help please!

This is quite interesting, as I've only read about this occurrence. I should point out that I wasn't suggesting that the other fuses were lesser quality, infact likely the opposite. i.e safer=better. That's a pure guess from an armchair enthusiast Joe Soap, so would like to see others thoughts...

    New Year, new Bandsaw!

That's what I was suggesting was the issue with the Centauro with the PTO. There's another thread on TWH2 where someone had to get a sleeve in their lower wheel, and no apparent damage to anything else. Perhaps the bearing simply froze, I would still question why though. There's also other...

    Improved hand tool myth.

@Derek Cohen (Perth Oz) I was wondering if you've got say a L-N no.5 1/2 or above. If you did... and you didn't have those two shooting planes, I guess it would be more preferable than something without much surface area, like those low angle planes, or more onto my query, more consistent than...
