    Metabo BAS 317 Replacement Tire

I'd sooner get thicker ones if you've got adjustability for it... Beware of cinching down those zinc guide castings, (worst metal known to man) should they still be present, that's if you are going for thicker tires. IIRC it's the same machine as the EB 315, could be wrong. No point in getting...

    Workbench

There's a lot to be said for a solid freestanding base which won't rack, should materials for a top not crop up. might as well post mine, which has proved to be super versatile, having a floating top. Nice and all the joinery aspect of things, well not this bench...haha, but it doesn't lend...

Bending ali bandsaw frame back to normal

Could there be flat tires on this Inca, I guess so... Is those flat tires giving you the impression of the machine warping...... i.e for flat tires, tensioning will have an effect like tracking! - the more tension, the further the blade's teeth will overhang off of the wheel. Failing that, and...

Bending ali bandsaw frame back to normal

Sounds like there may be other ways to me. You could give us a clue as to whether or not carriage adjustment might be possible, and you could try doing some alignment tests, like this for example... The test is done with blade under tension, as top wheel needs to stay put and not tilt. Tom

    Workbench

Those benches are too short for something your going to spend money on IMO, if they were longer, then that would make sense as you could brace the top against something, and get away with the flimsy base, without smacking into the wall (should you not have another bench or whatever in-between. I...

Lie Nielsen or Clifton 5 1/2?

One is made out of ductile iron, the other isn't. Do they both weigh the same? Many have said these premium planes to be too heavy...... Though being a no.5 1/2, and with sides actually square, this might not be a terrible thing, and the greater area of the LN might make a very small percentage...

ACM Star / Griggio SNA 600 bandsaw teardown

Took a fair bit more bashing to get the plate to sit nicely on the machine And also the other side of it in which the motor will be mounted against Bit of step drilling, a dang good reason to keep those broken drills Best tenner that I've spent in a long time, one of those rare occasions...

ACM Star / Griggio SNA 600 bandsaw teardown

Figured some 6mm flat bar was the best thickness to go with (feet for the plate) and only have narrow bar for that, so decided to weld these strips on rather than tapping. Then I'll figure where I want to drill, and whether I've got enough fixings to muck about with things. Holes drilled and...

ACM Star / Griggio SNA 600 bandsaw teardown

I've since made an adjustable plate, just going out to do some shimming today. Might as well do an update, as I had some trouble repeating those lines, bit trickey to draw and would like to document what the solution was, without a backlog of other stuff. Flattening the stock Got the...

Analysis paralysis: Should I cut a board only to edge joint it again?

I don't see any joinery, so question is it worth semi doing furniture stuff, like the edge jointing, but leaving out the feature of say dovetails or whatnot. Have you looked at a traditional approach of design?

Advice please re: blade for 10" table saw

Not had a good look at a saw like this, so perhaps others can answer, but presumably a smaller blade may not suit, i.e guessing there wouldn't be (8mm IIRC, must make certain of that though) between the RK and the blade, which the UK HSE suggests. I don't have experience with multiple saw...

Cutting and bending 6mm sheet steel on a budget

LOL, my Fisher price has got me outta a pickle many's a time. Unsure if I'd ever want to experience the difference between TBH, (no space for anything bigger really) Ignorance is bliss in my case, and do please refrain from encouraging me regarding the TAS... (tool acquisition syndrome) as I...

Advice please re: blade for 10" table saw

Thanks to folks here, and those whom have emigrated to "the other place"/club linked It's where I truly learned of the dangers of the TS. Regarding hand held circular saws, I'm not really upto speed TBH. I consider it an obligation to promote safety, and will dig out some older threads from few...

Cutting and bending 6mm sheet steel on a budget

Why would anyone choose to use tig or mig for this application, Is it not much more expensive/consumptive? This li'l liddle welder is 40 pounds when there in, and possibly 25% cheaper if it's on discount, bargain to me, weighs a tonne, which is probably a good thing, and likely going to last a...

Advice please re: blade for 10" table saw

IIRC, Trevanion's post addresses these queries in the link. He and others here, have much much more knowledge than myself regarding tablesaws and circular saws TBH. Some hand held circular saws, like all well designed tablesaws, have a riving knife so a blade must be matched to this if so, or...

Cutting and bending 6mm sheet steel on a budget

Apologies for the hold up, been busy all day teaching Joe Rogan how to play Karate :) Indeed it only took a single belt with a hammer, though I cannot remember which one of those was used, judging from how totally inaccurate the witness mark is, it was likely the big maul which doesn't even...

    Mondays Guess the Wood Contest

Sipo/utile would be my guess. How about showing the edge to see if there maybe clues, as sipo/utile often has a fleck like beech, which I've not seen on say meranti, nor sapelle. Sapelle which has much tighter grain compared, to say meranti, (pores less deep) i.e yer looking at sliced...

Cutting and bending 6mm sheet steel on a budget

I unintentionally, sharply bent some 8mm offcut the other day without anything but hitting it with hammer simply on the flat, which I used it for protecting the plate I was bashing the twist out of below, and had to choose the ovalish offcut from it after a single wallop, (IIRC, can check to...
