Advice sought: resurfacing an old workbench.

Indeed ply offcuts make great sacrificial tops though. What I didn't do well in pointing out is the fact that if you think ply is flat, then that could likely be why you doubt you could get your bench top as flat as it. Not having something what's actually flat to begin with, and as long as the...

Advice sought: resurfacing an old workbench.

Plywood is expensive, and not very flat either.

Best way to cut a 3mm sliver on a bandsaw?

Cut oversize like what you have already, and plane to the lines is the usually the case. For something that small it would only take a few swipes with a handplane.

Best paint for a galvanised/slightly rusted metal roof?

What's the cheapest tar you can get in a barrel, something perhaps a bit thinner than trowel mastic, but not so thin as the many bitumen "paints" out there which is super runny and likely too thin.

    Router table problem

Sorry for seemingly being a negative so and so, but that comment has all the trademarks of the usual tablesaw accident story, been using one for years etc. Did I mention Roy Sutton's old VHS videos are available to watch freely on YT? it's not the usual tat you will see, i.e no hidden financial...

    Router table problem

Also worth pointing out that checking the collet/bit are both comparative for the router and in good condition, as in a recent post, before splashing out on something what might not fit.

    Router table problem

Roy Sutton's videos on youtube would be worth watching, as it sounds like you fancy someone else's cookin. All the best Tom

Gluing Green Oak Board (to make a wide board!)

Not being sure of what the purpose of this is for, i.e for some sort of insulation, be it heat or noise, or just for aesthetics or security, Seems you want it to look well anyways. Frame and panel construction with dry timbers, that is... if you wish for it to close a gap up, and for it to...

    What wood?

Lots of differing kinds of walnut, not that I've got experience with it. One for the folks who use the stuff, Custard's posts would be worth searching for IIRC regarding walnut. Just mentioning should there be much variance between flatsawn vs quartersawn. It wouldn't hurt to post a picture of...

Very very Nice Bling Safe Sliding Saw by Altendorf.

Just an assumption, but perhaps not generous if you getting cheaper insurance?

I've asked on the creek, https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?302584-Overhead-Guard-for-Table-saw/page2&s=9973b56fea4e2254b94e98af10b4641c and Joe Calhoon replied mentioning he has one for his traditional enough Martin saw, which I found piccies of on the Canadian woodworking forum. He...

    thanks

Cosman, Charlesworth, Weaver and Mickley have done all the work regarding hand planing really. All I've done was point that out, and possibly emphasize I make no exceptions regarding putting those things together, which is seemingly optional for some. i.e having a decently long flat bench with a...

Large drill bits - why so long?

Liddle do have blacksmiths drills up to quite a large diameter, sold frequently, and probably often left over nearing discount, like in my local. Not found issue with the few packs of them. Great value I've got from them, aswell as a box of Sliverline ones.

Large drill bits - why so long?

Since the heading is sorta on topic, might as well ask how easy it is to find extra long bits, or if someone can tell me what the correct terminology for these is? Great for testing allsorts and whatnot. Cheers Tom

Very very Nice Bling Safe Sliding Saw by Altendorf.

The guard is probably getting close to being an automatic job by now if not already, since it has a supply for the warning strip light. Haven't found one video I seen before, which demonstrated raising one of these, it didn't appear nice, as it was very clunky like using a very oversized timer...

Looks like an overpriced one trick pony if you ask me. Just for some perspective have a looksey at this wee beauty. Ain't it refreshing to see that at least some folks are having a crack at pushing the boat out!

Position of Router Plate and the Mitre track on a MFT Router Table

@Derek Cohen (Perth Oz) Kinda thought you'd be the type of guy to find an excuse for a miter slot, since I don't recall you owing a spindle moulder, and guessing you might have a fairly good mitre guage what would suit for the job. Well, that simplifies matters! Thanks for sharing your...

Does it have an incident tracker like what car insurance companies have, as the Sawstop does, albeit different i.e who set off the cartridge? You need training kinda thing. Wouldn't be too much to ask if it didn't.
