Am I allowed a little gloat?

It is not really a gloat as there is nothing new I have bought here - but since I finished the Krenov drinks cabinet (now with 10 malts in it so a cabinet just for me and my whisky really :D :D), I have not started anything new - instead I have been over my entire workshop, fine tuned all the...

    Chopping board questions

i've made quite a few of the wood whisperers boards a few years back - i used sycamore, oak, yew, walnut etc etc. varied the thickness a bit - easy enough to do - and they are all still going strong (relatives, friends etc - really straightforward and was one of the first things I made I...

Finally finished the fly tying box

I love it too Andy - any chance of a detail of the inlay? I made one for a mate a year or so back - a much smaller box 6x4 inches just with foam in the inside as follows but the inlay was fiddly and I was never sure it was very accurate Lovely box really well done Cheers Mark

    Hell's teeth...not ANOTHER box!

I do agree with Pete that, if it were mine, I would have added something to balance the ebony - maybe inlaid initials in the top - or a lock with the escutcheon cut out in a square of ebony - something to balance it. Not taking away from your superb craftsmanship tho'. 'tis a matter of tastes as...

    Another Mac query?

Rob you'll struggle to shrink a PDF by very much at all. Don't worry about the whole file appearing - I think that is the default for the Apple Mail programs - when they arrive at their destination the recipient can still right click and save as etc Regards Mark

    Hell's teeth...not ANOTHER box!

Nice Rob.... did you make the box as a whole and then but it on the bandsaw? Also where do you get your ebony from? I bought a 5kg 'bag' of oddments from **** a few years ago but it is getting sparse Regards Mark

Beech and Walnut Jewellery box WIP

I hardly dare to suggest this - but after my recent foray into JKs world, if I was making what you are doing, I would use a bandsaw to cut 3mm 'veneers' off your lovely-grained beech - and then use something much more stable as a core for the doors - it will take longer - sure - but if you have...

Beech and Walnut Jewellery box WIP

I too am fascinated by this method - very innovative. Like Rob tho' I am also very concerned about the moisture content of the wood and how this will change when it is in the bedroom / wherever it will finally be kept. I can just see that very interesting design being prone to a non-uniform gap...

    Personal website

I have probably got another 5 or 6 years until I retire from my proper job... I would ideally like to develop a little sideline when I retire expanding what I do now in terms of making a few bespoke pieces of furniture some of which I have posted here in the past. I thought I would probably...

    A Krenov-inspired cocktail cabinet

I think I am finished finally - it has taken longer than virtually anything I have ever done - mostly because of the indecision, remaking, undoing, vacillation, heart-searching etc etc All that needs to be done is to put the glass in which I will do once it is totally dry and waxed Off and on...

    A Krenov-inspired cocktail cabinet

Thanks so much gentlemen for the criticism / comments I really have no problem with people making negative comments - that as I have said before is the only reason I post my work here - it is certainly not to get smoke blown up my a**e or otherwise! I make half a dozen pieces a year - almost all...

    A Krenov-inspired cocktail cabinet

I am almost frightened to post the pictures with the burr fronted drawer in case you lot don't like it! However, now that I have tidied up the front, put on a handle to match the cabinet doors I am delighted with it - it is definitely going to stay like this. The only thing I might change is I...

    A Krenov-inspired cocktail cabinet

Rob I take your point and I too am concerned about it... However, I definitely wanted it to have a drawer as did the boss i.e. my wife. I think the burr will look fine. Worst case scenario I can replace the burr front with a cherry one. We will see Thanks again Mark

    A Krenov-inspired cocktail cabinet

Some more bits and pieces done over the weekend. I actually can't do long days any more as I have developed worsening back pain over the last year and have discovered I have quite a big scoliosis - curved spine to the side. Apparently I may need surgery in a year or more?? Anyway, I can...
