Building a long bench - advice wanted

Doing a double hi-jack! I also find mine excellent. One of the most versatile and useful items that i own. Even more so if used in conjunction with the hold downs.... Regards, Adam

Wooden USB keychain (looking for suppliers)

WHy not buy a couple of 128 or 256 second hand off ebay for a couple of quid and see if you can do anything with those? Adam

    slippery when wet

Repaint with the same, but when its still wet, throw a few hadfuls of dry sand on it, to create some "grip". Alternatively, as odd as it sounds, I found we got an green algae on ours, and pressure washing it worked wonders to make it less greasy. Adam

    Screwfix Trade Counters

Does anyone know a way to find out if a Screwfix Tradecounter has your particular item in stock without visiting in person? Screwfix can't tell you when you ring them, and they won't give out the number so you can ring them yourself. You can't do a "false" purchase and select the tradecounter...

Moving hot water tank or new boiler.

We've had one in our current house, and our previous house. Absolutely fine. In both cases the shower was run from them, and guests would always comment on the nice shower with plenty of flow (no pumps or anything). Filling the bath was a little slower in the last house, but fine in this one -...

    Offloading old copies of F&CM

I'm a subscriber to various magazines (although for obvious reasons I tend to keep some of the GWW). I hate to see things go to waste, and have spare copies of F&CM and PWW once I've read them. I'd like to find an "as-easy" as putting them in the recycling bin method to get them to someone else...

I need to change ISP - is Zen still TOTPs?

I've just had Zen installed. Pretty seemless, and they fired it up 4 days earlier than they predicted. As yet, I can't comment on any other aspect but joining up was pretty seamless. Adam

Help me before the sparks start to fly...

True, but not the fees. As far as I know these are aligned across Surrey. I checked your concil and looked at the fees chart. If you look at the bottom of the fees sheet, for building notices for works under £2000 (and lets be honest, its not going to be even close to that), so the fee is...

Help me before the sparks start to fly...

Sorry, but this is a standard attitude based on the fact that building control do not want to be lumbered with this signoff process for Part P. You could rightfully insist that they are being negligent in not having a member of qualified to give sign offs, and, in fact, they are supposed to have...

Help me before the sparks start to fly...

Absolute Rubbish. I'll dig out the quotes. Give me a few minutes....http://www.communities.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1131042 How about this? ?? And that it is a fixed fee? See here: And I have an email from the Buildings division, (department for comunities and local government) when I double...

Help me before the sparks start to fly...

I just buried mine at 450mm (I hired a trench cutter from HSS for the day, like you it was about 35m). The problem with fences is they are not considered "permanent" installations. They did come and inspect my trench, although I agree, they weren't quite sure if they did or didn't need to, so...

    Problem with my Scheppach TS2500CI

I think their is also a nut or something to limit the top and bottom raise (like a stop) for 0 and 45 degrees. If this is loose, you can keep winding beyond it, and evenutually, the whole carriage hits something and starts to flex (and the blade). Perhaps worth having a squirrel underneath and...

    My Workshop flooded again

Yep - need that "smells a bit off", then apologetically say it smells like "toilet water" or something. Normally, they are quick to act about that. Adam

    Workshop break in

I'm truly sorry to hear that. What a despicable act. Just remember, when chatting down the pub/with the other local "yoofs" remember they might mention they came across a workshop full of tools. Get some better locks (top and bottom) with some bracing on each side and maybe security lights -...
