When to change filter in air cleaner?

I tried this and unfortunately the water inside doesn't move at all between having a new filter and covering the air inlet entirely. New air filter: Inlet completely covered with a piece of plywood Any other ideas or should I scrap this as more trouble than it's worth?

When to change filter in air cleaner?

    > Why not simply set a regular schedule/date to remove filter and clean it? This is probably the simplest solution, but not really optimal as I go through phases where I'm creating a lot of dust and then months when I'm only making the odd cut here and there. I'd prefer to just look at a gauge...

When to change filter in air cleaner?

    > Professional kit measures the pressure diference across the filter - often with nothing more than a simple u tube of water - because the difference increases as the filter loads up. It would be easy to add this as an upgrade That sounds like a great idea. I can 3D print or buy a cheap...

When to change filter in air cleaner?

Probably a silly question but I've got a Record Power AC400 air cleaner which has had intermittent use in my single garage workshop for about a year now. The filter is starting to go a bit beige and I'm considering replacing it. How do you know when is the correct time to change the filter?

    Sedgwick PT255

Mine runs fine on a 13A supply, although if I plug my shop vac into the same double socket as the PT there's an audible change in the shop vac suction frequency for a few milliseconds whilst the PT starts up, presumably due to the large inrush current. I think if a 16A supply were required...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

I have a couple of questions. One is general to all planers, and one is specific to this machine which perhaps @deema, @Sideways or someone else with a Sedgwick machine could answer? #1 Is there a trick to setting the blade height? There are setscrews under the blade which set its height, and...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

I got the spindle off using the bearing puller. It didn't require much force at all, just needed the right tool for the job. Once the spindle was off it was relatively straightforward to install the new bearings. First, I installed them onto the spindle. Then I pushed the spindle, with...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

Machine is back to being vertical and I have a gear puller on its way, hopefully delivered tomorrow. The pulley retaining bolt is off. I had to stop the spindle from spinning by cutting a length of oak and wedging it between the recess where the blades go and the bottom casting. Worked quite...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

Gotcha. I've taken the outfeed table off and it does make it easier to move. Whilst it was off I noticed that the bearings on the spindle are pretty worn and could do with replacing. I've been following the instructions from this thread on stripping down a PT255 for removing the spindle...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

Armed with this knowledge I was able to align the infeed table to within 0.1mm. It's still not bang on though and it feels like I'm at the limit of skewing the side castings. You mentioned two bars which need slackening. I slackened this one, but couldn't see another one. Which is the second...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

Aha! That explains why the spindle was resisting my efforts. Will have another attempt later today. Thanks. You are correct in your suspicions :) I've also never worked with an old machine like this. I'm finding it mostly a joy to work with, everything is rock solid. The challenge is figuring...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

Yes, fair point. I just like things to be set up accurately. Setting the knives to compensate for a misaligned spindle would mean I'd need to re-shim both the outfeed and thicknesser table to align with the knives, rather than the spindle. I'll do this if there's no other way.

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

I'm very much in the "swear a little" phase at the moment. I've tried adjusting both side castings, one pulling towards the infeed, and the other away from it but have only been able to reduce the gap to 0.15mm. Now, no matter how hard I push or pull, I can't close the gap any further. It's not...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

Oh I've got plenty of beer cans 😄 Any tips for getting those brass bushings out? I'm thinking a punch and some brute force should do it. Also, is there any specific place you'd recommend for buying new ones? Would these do? Oil Filled Sintered Bronze Bushes - Plain - WychBearings.co.uk

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

First off, thanks very much - what a great forum this is where knowledgable people take the time to share their wisdom and experience. I've done some more measuring and confirmed that the tables are coplanar to within 0.1mm from end to end. I'm astonished over at how flat the tables are even...

Advice needed on secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser

I just bought a secondhand Sedgwick 10" planer/thicknesser (it was this one, and I followed advice from this thread and this thread). Everything checked out apart from 2 things. One I hope is easy to fix, and the other I'm hoping doesn't matter 🤞. Firstly, the main cog is rubbing slightly on...

Planer thicknesser for single garage workshop

Thank you @deema and @sams93 for the quick and extremely useful responses. My confusion with the measurement technique was that I thought it was the horizontal distance from the table edge to the spindle which needed measuring, rather than the vertical distance. Makes total sense now. I have a...

Planer thicknesser for single garage workshop

I have almost identical requirements to the OP (single garage workshop, looking to invest in 2nd hand P/T for furniture making, specifically looking at a Sedgwick PT255) so I hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread. I'm interested in this PT but am a bit concerned about the table damage...
