Halogen to LED. Can anybody throw some light on my problem?

OK chaps, stand down, problem probably solved, found 2 dimmer switches in a completely unexpected place and  they are in the circuits. I'll have to prevail on that nice Mr Screwfix to change the LED's to dimmables. Good job I didn't throw the packaging away. Brian

Halogen to LED. Can anybody throw some light on my problem?

No dimmer switch. New LCD's are non-dimmable With all bulbs removed voltage at all 6 bulb holders is 194V. This would seem to rule out my idea of 2 units being in series. Old halogens definitely GU10 mains voltage. The 12V equivalent is GU5.3 as in this photo:- This particular halogen shows...

Halogen to LED. Can anybody throw some light on my problem?

One of the first jobs I set myself in our new abode is to replace all the bulbs in the property with LED's I started on the kitchen which has 2 arrays of 6 GU10 halogen's {probably 50W) I replaced one and the new LCD seemed acceptable for brightness compared with the old bulbs. I replaced a 2nd...

    LED advice needed

Here you are Stig, these may be of use:- A bag of white LED's, plastic holders and matching resistors. These were purchased for a model railway control panel which never came to fruition. As such they are designed to run off 12V. This may not be what you want as a power supply but they may be...

Best wood filler for larger knots

Firstly, use a clear epoxy and the natural colour will come through. Secondly, unless you're going to use an epoxy finish for the whole crib, it's not worth buying it in bottled quantities as it has a comparatively short shelf life. I would buy a few tubes of cheap Poundland glue. Use just...

Advice on building a steamer for steam bending

My first generator was an old pressure cooker with a rubber tube in lieu of the safety valve and a camping stove as the heat source. Brian

    Bow compasses to take pencils?

There is loads of choice at Trade.inc, eg, https://www.stationerywholesale.co.uk/student-solutions-9-piece-maths-set-pink/ Surely management could find £10. If not shame them by telling them you've got some mates who are willing to chip in - including me. Brian

Advice on building a steamer for steam bending

Unless you're going to use it for business, i would recommend lashing up a temporary arrangement using the cheapest of materials. There's nothing to be gained from the use of insulation apart from your personal safety. Energy efficiency doesn’t really come in to it. As long as you can see steam...

    Vacuum veneering

You can buy plastic sheeting which has grooves moulded into its surface. This is designed for vacuum pressing to give a perfect load distribution, however it is expensive. I found a very cheap alternative - greenhouse shading sheet. It has 2 sets of grooves moulded at right angles to each other...

Metabo 260C 10" Planer thicknesser - First impressions.

A further note I was having trouble with the same switch in that it was difficult to get the hood to operate the lever. On investigating the switch and its mechanism I realised it is not a failsafe arrangement. I also took the view that I didn't necessarily want dust collection on all my...
