Today I finished making this box having been working on it for the last couple of months. The story started 9 months ago when we met up with old friends and Pat asked me if I would care to make her a replacement for her needlework box which was falling apart after many years of use. She gave me...
When I put in for planning for my completely wooden w/s I was advised I needed to provide some fire rated material on the wall adjacent to the boundary. Why's that? I enquired. "To protect your neighbours property" was the reply. I pointed out that the neighbours property is an open field...
I've just fitted a 20A Soft Starter to my mitre saw. Here is a video of it in action. It's a very rough starting action as the motor struggles until there's sufficient voltage to get it moving. It least now it's not suffering the sudden start jolt.

That's interesting, it must be a recent rule change. My clock thread was started life on 10/7/19 and the title was amended to include 'maintenance' 14 months later.
Perhaps @MikeK could comment.

It seems there are some tilt forward SM's available. I've just found this one from Scott+Sargeant. Its spec gives a tilt of +30 to -10degs and from their photo it looks as though the 30degs is in the forward direction.
Felder advocate backward tilting for these reasons
Safety, as there is no...
Tilting backwards is the normal which means that the workpiece will generally be passing over the cutters (if tilted). If the shaft tilted forwards the operator would be more exposed to the rotating block so more attention to guarding required.
I've just done a search on Kity SM's but can't...
This is a job I've been putting off for years - demolition of an old garage with corrugated asbestos/concrete roof panels. The relevant document attached indicates that the process of removing and packaging is not too onerous but the disposal will mean hiring a licensed contractor to take it...
I've been following this with interest as my Merabo saw is quite unnerving on startup. It runs happily on a 13A supply, so do I need to select the right starting resistor? They seem to be available in 12, 15, 16 and 20A ratings.
They seem to be very simple devices but I can't find any...
Your feed roller has got a gripping surface on it which, as you realise, can indent the wood. However the indentations should subsequently be shaved off by the blades. This does mean that the final pass cutting depth has to be sufficient to achieve that. I usually aim for a final cut of at...
Have a look at this video. It includes a shop-made adjustable fence to take account of blade drift with very good advice on how how to set it up.

I would say it could be done. It looks as though its fairly sound under the top 2 plys. You would need a vacuum bag press for laying on new veneers.
What is PlanB if it goes pear shaped?
Any volunteers in the Crowthorne area?

@J-G Ref, the numbering system. I wasn't commenting on the numbering system itself, but apparent relationship of the thread diameter 'correction' to it, which, IMO (no H), seems arbitrary.
