    Anybody able to cast aluminium?

If you just want something that looks like that, I'll get a few dimensions off you and I can have it in the post over the weekend :)

    Anybody able to cast aluminium?

As long as it's got the needed dimensions - (in metric please :D ) - I can model it in CAD first and make my own drawings for machining. Edit - Probably wouldn't be any more difficult to make them out of steel if you'd prefer that.

    Anybody able to cast aluminium?

Are they both the same, are you in a rush, could you provide drawings? It looks like something I could do at work, but it would have to be in my free time. (I have access to a cnc mill & lathe)

    Bosch Get55-125 Backing pads.

Any idea where I can get a replacement pad for the Bosch Get55-125 sander? I bought a hard (blue) one last year, but can't find where I got it from. Thanks.

    Where to get dimensional drawings

Have you tried https://www.the-blueprints.com/ ? They sell some stuff, but they have a massive amount of free stuff to.

    CNC wood turning advice wanted.

A few years back I made a couple of chess sets on the cnc machine at work, out of aluminium. I'm thinking of having a go at making some wooden sets to go with the boards I make - probably maple, walnut, possibly rosewood. The only tooling we use is carbide, and the smallest r/h knife tool I...

Precision ground flat stones - UK supplier?

Might not be very useful to you, but you might find it interesting - 3 plate method for creating flat surfaces. I know that was one method they used to use to create surface plates, back in the day.

White French polish - does it separate?

I bought some white French polish a few days ago, for the first time. Is it normal that it separates out? My normal blonde, pale and buttons don't do this. Thanks

Ever wonder how they did computing before computers?

I also trained as a draughtsman and used the same type of pens. Later, I used the same pens to do art-work, but haven't done any for about 20 years. I recently decided to get myself another set of Staedtler's and hit up ebay........ where I found them listed as 'Antique drawing implements' haha

Ever wonder how they did computing before computers?

My workmate used to say "Any id1ot can come up with mark 2 - coming up with mark 1 takes the brains"

Ever wonder how they did computing before computers?

I found this fascinating - how fire control computers worked in navy battleships in WW2. Using cams, gears, differentials and other types of mechanics to do maths - some of it pretty advanced. Part 2

    Micrometer break in?

If you've got a slip gauge set or a good quality feeler gauge you can measure those - if it didn't come with a setting standard.

    Another two chessboards.

As you improve, you'll make less mistakes and naturally get quicker. My joinery and constructions is much, much better (both in application and technique) than it was when I started my hobby, but my finishing still sucks. Many times I'll have to give it 3 or 4 attempts before I'm happy. And...

    Another two chessboards.

Firstly, woodwork is a hobby for me. I work in teaching/engineering, so my weekends are all about just enjoying being out in the shed, with the dog, pottering about - the money isn't that important. That's a long winded way of saying I don't do it as a business, and even if I didn't charge I'd...

    Bandsaw Coplanar/parallel

Another user here posted up the link to this brilliant guide - brilliant if it applies to you that is, I don't know that band saw but I expect it might.

Post a pic of something you have recycled

I had 10 of these doors from a skip about 18 months ago. They let me have them for nothing, just to give them more skip space - I dismantled them there and gave them the glass back ! This pic is about 1/4 of the rails, and some of the stiles (arrowed) I ended up with. It's not going to...

    Another two chessboards.

Tbh, I'm not sure - it was salvaged timber. Some sort of hardwood that was used in 1950's fire doors. This is what it looked like before I stained it and used black French polish on it - I wasn't that keen. @matkinitice The first 30 seconds is something I can understand. I made a couple of...

    Another two chessboards.

Theirs or mine? Mine take an age to make because I don't have all the tools I'd like (but then again, not many do!). I got the garage because my wife's Ford Kuga was too long to fit in it - my workshop is basically the footprint of a car. No wide drum sander, no jointer, no sander, no proper...
