    Mapping a field

Yes re gradients but otherwise there is an App (of course) which means your phone can give you the area instantly. My son works in Civil Engineering and uses it - with circumspection. Ian

    Selling advice

Depressingly true David, I have been on the other side of this at craft fairs and have always wondered at the stalls selling- or not selling turned items. The guys sit there expectantly and I can see they are good at turning but it’s all just more "stuff" which probably isn’t needed.

    Building Bridges

Looking forward to watching the bridge take form, know what you mean about the smell of the green Oak.

How would you cut game counters from dowels?

I thought for one awful second you said pigs instead of plugs, all this talk of carcasses!

Jet JPT-260 spare parts - have I made a mistake buying this machine?

Do you have a pic of the outfeed roller and why it needs replacing. Bearings are fairly standard, once you have one out you can either measure it or take it to a bearing supply place. Ian

How would you cut game counters from dowels?

I once saw an industrial bacon slicer that used blades like an aeroplane propeller, and it was spinning very fast indeed it was quite something to watch. So not so daft!

How would you cut game counters from dowels?

If you were to have a jig with holes running though it for the dowels to sit in, bandsaw cuts already in it. Then you need a pile of flat bits of 3/4” bits of wood against the fence, push the jig forwards to cut the first row of counters, pull one of the flat bits away which then lines the jig...

    Selling advice

Unfortunately you are correct, and there is a lot more money in odd job type work, a shelf unit to fit an alcove etc, strange but true, also gets you out talking and spreading knowledge of you. Flyers through letterboxes and local Parish magazine are a good start. It’s surprising how good work...

Hi there, New member with a question.

Hi and welcome, Dominion were a good old British make, I had a large combination machine in my workshop 50? Years ago trying to make separates from it - definitely a bridge too far!! Never seen a lathe from them -sorry. It’s handy for members to know approximately where you are Scott if you...

How would you cut game counters from dowels?

That’s an interesting site, a quick look gives 500 3/4 Mahogany plugs at about £70 + vat and postoge. Or approx 20p each. Bit of a dilemma! There’s a few ways to make them but no easy way without a bit of fettling needed. Ian

Metabo 260C 10" Planer thicknesser - First impressions.

That’s a good helpful write up Chubber, I’m sure people will use it. @BareBear I bought a s/h 12” Minimax PT with Tersa blades 15 years ago, it’s been absolutely brilliant, I can thoroughly recommend. Ian

    Moxon Vice parts.

I am looking to build one, I have drawn out the design but it’s not here with me- sorry, what baffles me is why they (nearly) all copy the same design and have the threaded bar sticking out the front. Plenty room at the back out of the way. Parts nothing very complicated that you can’t make...

Car tax / road fund licence

Yes I think you are correct about the MOT’s things are much better, also cars don’t rust away like they used to. I took this pic I Cleveland Ohio in the States, there were others but this was the worst. Slice you open as it passed by.

Most practical way to add unit on top of a desk?

To avoid marking the desk top you could have a solid base as mentioned and have the outer two uprights extend downwards slightly, then if you were to tie the two units together, possibly with a "splash back"you wouldn’t need to fasten them to the wall either, the splashback would also stop...

    Unique Craftsman-made Slitting/Marking Gauge

Of course, yes that makes perfect sense, and a useful thing to have too.

    Unique Craftsman-made Slitting/Marking Gauge

No haven’t seen one like that before, it’s taken me a min or two to work out what’s going on, I think she turned it end to end as well as round which confused me. But isn’t it limiting to only be able to slit/cut thin strips? I think it must have had a very specific use, or else why not use a...

    Recommend a compact router!

I haven’t weighed them so don’t know but won’t a corded one weigh less if you are looking for a lightweight one. Ian

    Tapered Cuts

If I’ve understood it correctly, how about putting the wood onto wall horizontally in differing thicknesses? So no tapered bits needed. Ian

    Selling advice

Another success story, my son was working with me making bespoke furniture, a friend of the family who I didn’t know wanted a Maple and Mahogany bent/laminated full height music stand, I asked him if my son could do it for him as I was tied up with another job. Long story short after a very...
