old roughing gouge, any good for beginner?

As Blister says above, NOT for cross grain work. That's why we now emphasize that it is a SPINDLE roughing gouge.

    Sharpening

Yes, you have got it right, there are 4 variables. Unless you know what you want the end result to look like, stick to the angle already ground on the gouge. Some set ups eg Sorby, Tormek etc. have a fixed distance between the jig & the wheel/belt. Perhaps this Tormek guide will help.

Lathe chucks, what do I have here?

You seem to have the bits sussed. Top photo, 4 prong drive centre then a mandrel for a buffing or grinding wheel. The 3 jaw chuck, presumably self centering, is really for metal but can be used to hold wood with tailstock support. The brush is probably too hard for polishing so possibly to...

    Twin Wall Polycarbonate

I have twinwall for a carport (approx 10m x 3m) & as an infill between two buildings. Both have a very shallow slope & suffer from ingress of algae & muck. My shed/workshop, a concrete sectional garage also has a twinwall roof at a steeper angle, 25° IIRC, & that doesn't suffer with the same...

    Centre Bits & Wood Turning

+1 for HamsterJam's points above. Another wood turner, who was also an engineer, told me that as long as the centre cone that you cut with a gouge is larger than the diameter of the drill it will always self centre

    Sharpening hollow mortice chisels.

The original design was intended to be used in a brace, not a battery or power drill, so would generate very little heat.

    Old pc update.

As like Porker above, perhaps look into buying a refurbished PC. EG, a Dell Optiplex which come in 3 form factors, Midi tower, Small Form Factor (290x290x90mm) & Micro. Then it's finding the best CPU, RAM, storage & ports for your money. These are normally ex office machines which have been...
