    Thicknesser Chipout

As per above, but I have found I can minimise it with sharp knives and fine cuts. But normally I just accept it coming off the thicknesser and then hand plane the surface afterwards to finished size to remove the tear-out.

    Door seals - Schlegel AQ21

I've fitted by cutting the groove with my table saw which has a 3mm kerf, compared to the specified 2.7mm slot width. It works fine and holds well except sometime at the ends of the slot, where I have used a dot of superglue to keep the end in place.

    Small Modern Shed Build

Sammy.se if you’re not going to put any edging on the felt then you don’t need to for the EPDM. The edging systems for EPDM act as rainwater guides and drip edges to feed gutters. However you do not have to use them, you can just nail a board over the epdm on the edges to prevent the wind...

    Follow up from Thicknesser Electrics

Amazing looking machine. Love the table length. I was hanging my nose over a Wadkin Baos by it the tables are so short compared to my old Wadkin BFT9. I assume they are fixed, in which case do they get in the way whilst thicknessing?

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Many moons ago in 2016, I bought a pile of sleepers for making raised beds. I built one and the wife and I were bored after one season. Since then the sleepers have hung around the yard doing not much apart from acting as rather rough benches. SHMBO has asked for some shelves for one of the boys...

    Solar panels.

Fascinating thread folks. Thanks for all the detailed inputs. Are there any recommended sites where I can look at info on sun levels for each area? I’m Aberdeen based so I think this is a non starter as our days are so short in winter. But with the new price cap I’m investigating all avenues.

I was in the comments section of a facebook post the other day about some paleontological post...... The creationists were out in force one chaps comment was along the lines of, "I've not experienced it so it is hokum". He didn't see the irony that he had no more experience of a flood 6000 yrs...

Oak frame Wood movement - what would you do?

I was thinking oak wedges also. Just a little concerned if it moves back it will then shove the vertical timbers upwards. I'd ask if the gaps are constant or vary with the seasons before fixing them closed.

Economics has a place in society but it also gets in the way of advancement. If you look at times when economics has been disregarded the technological progress we make is hugely accelerated. Unfortunately abandoning economics is oft done due to bad situations, war, disaster etc The space race...

    What got you started ?

I’m late 40s and 25yrs with the same firm next week. I previously found myself thinking one day I’ll know what I want to do. The new graduates who join were born after I joined. I’ve always found it fascinating how sure some of the are of what they want from their career, and at times I’ve been...

    What got you started ?

As a fellow engineer I'm still amazed at what I can do with some maths, a few engineering estimates and some basic equations.

    What got you started ?

Yes, but on my social media it is restricted to my friends and family, and realistically for most folks we are protected by being one not very interesting person amongst hundreds of millions of other not very interesting people. If it was easy to restrict the thread it would have been a...

    What got you started ?

@MikeK is there any way we can lock this thread to members only being able to view? I think it's great understanding the backstory of each other but I'm a little concerned we are putting personal stories into the public domain, which from a cyber security / phishing viewpoint is not super sensible.

    What got you started ?

Always loved taking stuff apart, we had a cellar in my childhood home that was my domain (an where my mum kept her wine), dad had died young so pretty much left to my own devices down there. Started with pushbikes, stripping them down. repainting and rebuilding for friends. Then bough a...

Do any of you sharpen your own planer/thicknesses blades? How?

I was unclear. I support the HSE regulations and the improvement of safety in the workplace that has resulted from them.
