    MFT style workbench

Not the most exciting update and excuse the mess, but I've made a start. The top is sort of a torsion box design which I can attach to the cabinet later once that's done. I say sort of a torsion box, unless someone can convince me otherwise there's no bottom to it, I figured the cabinet will...

    MFT style workbench

Thanks Spectric, the matchfit slots sound interesting, I've already got a couple of Axminster guide rail clamps though so I might have a crack at something similar, I have a keyhole router cutter that might do the job 🤔 I've seen the benchdogs rail hinge, looks good but the price is a bit steep...

    MFT style workbench

Thanks Triton, it's tempting but I don't think I have much need for it - I won't be using the dog holes for referencing cuts, so I can live with a little imperfection in the layout. My plan is to use the original as a template - drill with an 18mm forstener bit and then finish off with a flush...

    MFT style workbench

So I feel like this might be a bit of a controversial one around here, but I have a crudely cobbled together MFT style workbench/ assembly table that's in need of an upgrade so I'll chronicle it here. It'll be a bit of a slow burn but hopefully that'll give you all plenty of time to point out...

Cordless tools - Best Platform To Choose?

I can't speak for the drills but I'm very happy with the handle arrangement on my KS60 mitre saw, though my previous Bosch had a similar arrangement so maybe it's just from familiarity. I can't get on at all with the horizontal style handles on other saws, just feels totally unnatural to me.

Cordless tools - Best Platform To Choose?

I'm another Makita lxt user. Got onto the platform when I needed a new lawnmower and found a cracking deal on one with 4 3ah batteries and twin fast charger. Then followed up with a Screwfix bargain of hammer drill with two 5ah batteries and I've expanded ever since, the range seems to cover...

Which of these Axi Extractors? needs to be small, 3 pin plug and able to use fine filter?

As with everything in life it's a trade off. The cyclone seperates most of the dust and chips out before it gets to the main filters, but the added turbulence reduces the airflow and suction. I'm happy to make that compromise but others may disagree!

Which of these Axi Extractors? needs to be small, 3 pin plug and able to use fine filter?

Ok I've got a bit more time now than expected so I've taken a few quick photos. That's a shame about it being back ordered, I guess they've sold a few in the sale! I went for this model because I wanted something with a cyclone and a fine filter, this ticked both boxes without requiring any...

    Your Favourite Tape Measure(s)

I like the hultafors talmeter 3m for fine work, being able to accurately measure internal measurements is a game changer for cabinet work and metric only keeps it tidy. Just be careful to read the correct number when using the internal measurement flip out tail, I'm not going to lie I've cut...

Which of these Axi Extractors? needs to be small, 3 pin plug and able to use fine filter?

I've just bought the AW118CE in the black Friday sale (don't forget code SAVETEN for an extra 10% off). My workshop is a little smaller than yours but this sits nicely in a corner and I feel the space taken is justified! I found the measurements on the Axminster website make it look a little...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

If it was a fence post and looks somewhat oak like, my money's on sweet chestnut. It's used a lot for fences due to its impressive rot resistance, and certainly looks possible as far as i can tell from the photos.

Axminster Black Friday - Pretty good savings.

Hi Brian, I'd also ruled out that bandsaw based on the size, hoping the next model down might find its way into a January sale. You've just put the thought back in my mind though, any chance you can take a few photos with detailed measurements please? Clearly Axminster's measurements are way...

Wood Options for making Painted Wood Furniture

Add one more voice to the pine brigade here, I've not had any issues with it for painted furniture. Just pick out the boards with the fewest knots and you'll save a few quid over any other option. Red wood over white any day, it machines better and takes a few more knocks before it shows the wear.

    Bandsaw

Glad to be of service, I saw that discount code somewhere about a month ago and have used it twice already! Tuffsaws get recommended a lot around here and I use their blades on my tiny record power bandsaw, I've always had a good experience with them but haven't tried any from anywhere else to...

    UJK dovetail jig

Axminster also have a 10% code SAVETEN which works alongside the black Friday deals (at least it worked for me yesterday when I ordered a new dust extractor)

    Hello from Devon

@johna.clements that could be a fun discussion for the off topic forum, I know there's a fair share of professionals around here, but it'll be interesting to see how everyone else describes themselves. I feel terms like "amateur" "hobbyist" and "DIYer" all probably mean different things to...

    Hello from Devon

Don't get me started on the rain, apparently the village I'm in in statistically one of the wettest in the UK! 😂

    Hello from Devon

Thanks ian33a, I'm just on the edge of Dartmoor, not far from Plymouth. Hi Jameshow, I was wondering when I'd get a fudge joke, I'm just glad it's not the usual one about fudge packers! 🙄

    Hello from Devon

Thanks, I'm lucky to have about 3.4x5m (sorry too tired to work that out in feet now! 😂). Trouble is after I built the shed and moved out of the spare room, my tools seemed to expand and I still don't have a lot of room! I try to avoid American YouTubers but their giant home workshops make me...

    Hello from Devon

Thanks Bingy man, I've been around here for years just never posted, so I know how generous and helpful everyone is around here. I've got no plans to start a sharpening thread anytime soon though, that can get ugly! 😂 I've got some shuffling about to do in the workshop over the next couple of...
